We didn't? IMO we did, those 3 games were very enjoyable to watch and we scored plenty of goals. We looked good for a brief moment in time.
Like I said, the current situation is reason for Ferrara not to go back to it, that's assuming he'd even consider it with everyone fit. Giovinco would play on the left, Diego in the middle and Rossi/Esposito on the right. Trez being our striker, e voila, the 4-2-3-1 is born. It's really not impossible, just highly unlikely at this point.
Del Piero wouldn't be able to play in a 4-2-3-1, but Diego would be alot better, as he'd have more support next to him, we've seen that in those games. He needs players around him to function, to spread play. It was a joy to watch him link up with Camo and Gio when they teamed up behind a striker.
I'm not saying we should just swap and stick to the 4-2-3-1, benching Del Piero for the rest of the season, but I don't see why we can't atleast try it out in a moment in which we struggle through every single minute of every game.
I agree that in a 4-3-1-2 Trez should be our main striker, with either Del Piero or Giovinco next to him, but I don't like the idea of Giovinco behind the strikers. I didn't like it when we tried him in that position before, also because he lacks some physical strength. If teams manage to completely cancel out Diego in that position, they will be able to do so with Gio.
Just my 2 cents
