Let's just play without wingbacks. They're just a waste of two positions.

    ----------------Gigi-----------
    -----Mellberg-Legro-Chiellini-----
    ---------------Sissoko-------------
    Marchio-Poulsen-Marchisio-Gio-
    -------Del Pie----Amauri/Trez--

I'd actually like to try that.Never gonna happen though unless all our fullbacks are injured, including the Primavera ones.

    Are you serious?

    that would be straight suicide.
Napoli also play 3-5-2 with two wingers, two DMCs and one attacking midfielder. If anything, Geof's 3-5-2 is even more defensive than Napoli's 3-5-2.
    Geof's is actually 3-1-4-2 while Napoli's is 3-4-1-2.

I'd call Napoli's players wingbacks. Both Maggio and Mannini (now Datolo) are wingbacks that can defend enough. Marchionni and Gio on the other hand....

Yes, you're right. Somehow i forgot that. Eventhough they're both much more involved offensively than they help in defense, they both run a lot and they can cover their side defensively.

True that, and thats why they are an offensive team.

That much crazier than my formation thou, don't know if Geof was serious.

I don't think my formation is doable in practice either.

Yep. In defensive mode, we'd have three defensive mids. Ideally, Sissoko would attack the ball, while Marchisio and Poulsen cover up the free players. But that requires a lot of coordination and could easily become a chaos

I'd call Napoli's players wingbacks. Both Maggio and Mannini (now Datolo) are wingbacks that can defend enough. Marchionni and Gio on the other hand....
That I agree with. I must say I'd prefer to play this tactic with robust wingers who can trail back when needed. Camo and a fit Nedved would be better solutions, ideally.
