Indeed.

First of all, I don't see why people think Milan will destroy us. Genoa went to San Siro with a stupid 3-4-3, and after Moretti's injury when Modesto replaced him (at 1:1), they played with only 1 CB and only 2 defenders (Biava and Criscito).
Genoa's team for 60 minutes of the match was consisted of 1 goalkeeper, 2 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 attackers. It was piss easy for Dinho, Beckham and especially Borriello to attack and find spaces. Even worse for Genoa, their CMs played a bloodless game and let Ambrosini do whatever he wants.

Juve won't let Milan do the same.
Two very slow teams will nullify eachother easily. Chiellini, helped by Canna will stand a much bigger chance against Borriello than Biava did. On Dinho and Beckham we'll always have two players. Grygera's job will be to stay close to Dinho all the time and the MR will always be there to help, while the same will be done to Beckham.
In CM Melo and Poulsen won't do what Milanetto and Juric did and Ambro/Pirlo will be closed down, which will leave Gattuso as Milan's "threat" from midfield.

Of course, this is all assuming that we'll also play the same formation that played Parma.
In that case, we'll also be easy to close down, because Diego and Amauri will find themselves alone most of the time against Milan's defense.

Set-pieces will probably decide the winner if there is a winner and goals at all.
Alen, I agree with the above...but they looked muuuch more alive than us. They looked fresh in 75 min when leading 5:1 and they were pressing hard man! I know we can step up for the big games, but not this time imo.

It's a prudent approach, but the reason I don't like it is because of this. The answer to a weak defense is not more defense. Teams need to play to their strengths, and if you have weak players at the back, the best idea is naturally to keep the ball away from them. This sort of thinking reminds me of Keynesian economists who believe that the answer to recessions caused by credit expansion and free spending can be solved by more credit expansion and more spending. It's quite the paradox, but that's what some folks believe, that adding fuel to fires solves problems.
Again, it's a question of mentality.

I'm not as bothered about having possession as you are and I believe that a poor defence must be protected.

I've always thought the 'attack is the best for of defence' type view is a heap of crap.

I'm not against having a few defensive midfielders, but having a midfield of Brazzo - Poulsen - Melo - Marchisio is just over-doing it. And we can be sure that we won't be able to keep the ball with the opposition troubling our defense no matter what.
Having slept on the matter, I would be tempted to play Giovinco on the left of midfield and move Marchisio to play in place of Melo or Salihamidzic.

This is to improve our chances of hitting on the break, without sacrificing too much defensive capability.

:delpiero:

I thought Milan were just okay in the game.

Genoa got their tactics spectacularly wrong and made it very easy for them.
