Mancini slams 'diver' Nedved Sunday 12 February, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roberto Mancini has accused Pavel Nedved of being a serial diver to earn the free kick that allowed Juventus to defeat Inter.

“After the equaliser we tried to pour forward and get all three points, but Alessandro Del Piero scored a great goal. Having said that, Nedved is a diver. He always throws himself on the ground and the referees fall for it. This is not up for debate, it was a simulation and he must earn about 10 free kicks per game like that.”

Ivan Cordoba brought down the Czech international for the decisive set-piece, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Walter Samuel had previously netted in Juve’s 2-1 victory at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri were also hit by an early injury to Juan Sebastian Veron, who was replaced by Kily Gonzalez.

“Juve certainly had a brighter start, as our objective was to win and therefore we were a little bit nervous, but we took more control as the game wore on. Veron is an important player and to lose him in the first half created a few more problems, but the team did well anyway,” explained Mancini.

“Adriano did what he was meant to, as he helps to hold up the ball for his teammates, but he was facing a fantastic defence today and they hardly left him any space. I was hoping Obafemi Martins could trouble them with his pace, but knew he didn’t have 90 minutes in him, while Luis Figo could cause problems for Federico Balzaretti in a role that he wasn’t accustomed to.”

Inter went unbeaten for 21 games in all competitions, but have now fallen to two consecutive defeats against Fiorentina and Juventus.

“Recently we have been creating opportunities, but it’s the finish that we’re having difficulty with. We aren’t as sharp or cynical as we should be,” added the Coach.

“We are in second place along with Milan right now and these two defeats have been tough to swallow, but we must get back on track next week against Livorno.”

There was a strange incident after the match when Dejan Stankovic closed the door to the players’ tunnel on the television cameras.

“There was a bit of an argument,” explained the Serb midfielder. “I know how these things can be misinterpreted, so I shut out the cameras, but it never got more heated than a verbal row. Juventus earned this victory, there’s no doubting it.”

Luis Figo was one of the angriest and made his feelings felt after the final whistle.

“This is an absolute scandal,” slammed the ex-Real Madrid man. “The whole world must see what happened today.”

best players imo were:emerson and balzaretti
emerson was great:he breaks their attacks in the midfield.he passes the ball ^faster than before, his shots have improved a lot.
balza:he is amazing.h estopped a lot of attacks and everytime he gets the ball he takes his time and chooses the best option.he also had great crosses and shots,i hope he will continue like that.

#1) It's quite possible that Alex doesn't have it in him for 90 minutes every match anymore.
Yes, however over the past few months Del Piero has been the better player and thats why I and several others believe he deserves the start.

#2) Never said that, huh?? Maybe not literally for a bag of balls :D Just like the day when Capello was hired and you called it the greatest thing to ever happen to Juve ( I still have the PM to prove it), and now you're bashing him at every chance you get.
Yes I was indeed happy that we brought in Capello because he was certainly a better option than Deschamps and Prandelli at the time. His work at Roma was also quite stunning and this was before I actually researched what Capello did in Milan...sorry but seeing that I have only been following European football since 1998 I had to do some research.

During Capello's first year in charge I always gave him a chance to see what he could do and did not pass judgement on him until the start of his second season. Throughout the course of last season I started to see some troubling trends and looking at our performances in the Champions League I was not entirely impressed. Now looking at this season I have many points that I want to take up with Capello...everything from his antiquated tactics to his player selections, all of which is related to our quest for the one trophy that keeps escaping us. I was happy with the signature of Capello in 2004 because I thought he would be the right man to bring us back on track...which he was, however I'm just not impressed with him in Europe and his personel choices...thats my opinion now.

And I have always loved Del Piero, however I was critical of him last year during his spell of inept play...just like I am now with Ibrahimovic. That's only fair, right? Don't try to make me out to be a hypocrite...I just want whats best for the team.

Same thing with Zlatan. Kaka got basically a free pass last year, but Zlatan doesn't deserve one though?
Kaka performed better than Zlatan has this year and Rui Costa wasnt on form either...unlike our situation with a glut of possible strikeforce replacements.
