It's a system with which posters can build up reputation. If you award someone reputation (rep), you give him a number of points (your post count in thousands + 1. For example; if I award someone rep, he receives 26 points). Every 100 points earns you a green square.

You can also give someone negative rep by disagreeing to a post.

The idea is that, after time, people can see if a member (and his opinion) is greatly valued on the forums or not.
