The defense was our biggest problem so securing it by making it as much less exposed as possible is obviously where Conte is starting to add his touch. Unfortunately the attack suffers due to that.

By using a very slow build-up play (which we do) and barely any counter-attack, it takes our 2 attacking wingers largely out of the game. Pepe and Krasic both have pretty good pace. Because we short pass and lob it around, the defence moves in, zone marks, and is then comfortable with covering either Pepe or Krasic.
If we were to play a faster game (which would be playing to our strengths), our wingers can move around quicker with give and gos, line runs, overlaps, etc.
It's not possible now, hence why they are always covered and have to play the ball back to Lichtsteiner, Chiellini, or a Centre Mid.

Technically Chievo are better than all those team except for Napoli.
Our crossing was really not as bad as its being said. It wasn't good but it wasn't bad either. What made it look bad is that no one was connecting with any of them. Matri needs to play whether it be in the 4-2-4 or 4-1-4-1 we need a goal scorer, we need a target man.

No one was connecting to them because they weren't crossed to them...hell, if you can't pick a man out with a cross then float it in and hope someone runs onto it.
There is no intelligence in our crossing into the box. Look at DP...header clear on goal and hits the post because of a good cross. That's all it takes. Send those kinds of balls to the head of Mirko or Matri and see what happens.

agreed. i think the reason for the slow passes is that we are over reliant on pirlo. everytime our players get the ball, the pass it to pirlo for him to distribute it to the wings. therefore, we wasted time. If our players are confident with their own passing. they could have saved alot of time passing the ball to the wings without the help of pirlo everytime. I notice pirlo is playing very deep today. it goes to show that our defenders cant distribute decent balls to the midfield/attack.
Conte should have subbed Pirlo, he was very tired playing all 90 min in the last matches and playing most of Italy's matches.
