Their backbone was Lukaku putting up a player of the season performance.

I wouldn't call Handanovic underrated. If anything, he's overrated as he's always been talked about as some high quality keeper and been for the most part above average.

Their defense is definitely the most quality of their squad, but the midfield ended last season on a low looking very average and it hasn't gotten better. It's gotten worse. Nevermind that their backline is very thin, the wingbacks have gotten much worse losing Hakimi.

Inzaghi is definitely a downgrade but he's fine overall. But he's never won much and he's a safe coach. He doesn't have SMS in midfield. No midfielder on Inter is SMS level. Barella showed strength but also showed his limits. Bozo isn't the player he once was and its been clear for almost a year now. Sensi has his limits. If anything, the quality of Inter's midfield is the quantity of it. They have a lot of average midfielders.

Vecino, Sensi, Barella, Gags, Agoume, Brozovic, Calhanoglu.

This might be the fifth worst midfield in Serie A behind Juve, Milan, Lazio, Roma. Might/maybe. It'll be interesting to see.

Backline, no arguments. One of the best in Serie A. I worry about their depth because playing a back three with ZERO depth is going to be hard when the fixtures start coming. They are one injury away from starting Kolarov at CB. And this is a Kolarov who is 3-4 years past his okay days.
What do you think on Dumfries? He seems a quality buy for them for 12.5m. Yes, Hakimi is better player but getting Dumfries is a very good replacement.

Now, they also look on D. Zapata or M. Thuram to replace Lukaku. It seems they look for similar characteristic with Lukaku. Striker with strength and power. What do you think if Inter get one of the strikers?

If I am Beppe Marota, I will go for Vlahovic with 2 year loan at 20m (10m per season is lower than Zapata asking price) + 60m (payable in 5 years) will be paid started after 2 years + 10m bonus if Inter win UCL (hard to achieve) for total 90m. The key things is to postpone the payment while still getting results on the pitch to overcome the debt they have and getting the younger players with resale value. This is the best scenario for them to reinvest some of the money from Lukaku and Hakimi transfer

Sell Lautaro next season and integrate some of their prolific youngster (Pinamonti or Esposito) besides Vlahovic,
Then sell Brozovic , De Vries too (with around 160-180m in mind for those 3 players expected to pay the debt)

I think Dumfries is a risky move for a few reasons. First off, his Euros were actually quite average like most of the Netherlands squad. Second, not leaving PSV until 25 is eyebrow raising. If he was of strong quality as a RB/RM he'd have been bought in his earlier 20s. I think he'll be fine but he won't be anything spectacular. His passing isn't the best and I think he was very average in Europa League play for PSV.

I just think he's very average and at 25 he's a very known product. I cannot discount that maybe he thrives and really shows up for Inter but I don't think it is likely. He'll benefit from the backline behind him and Barella who plays on the right side of the midfield.

I hope we sign another influential player but considering the current teams (and the new managers), I predict this:
1.Juve
2. Inter
3. Atalanta
4. Roma
5. Lazio
6. Milan

1. juventus
2-20. idgaf
Normally I’d agree, but I’ll take extra please in seeing Inda out of top 4. Depriving them of CL money combined with Suning’s financial problems would be a big blow.
Unless they benefit from that “historical pedigree” thing UEFA has put in place.

I seriously doubt it.
I mean Inter do not have Conte Lukaku and Hakimi which would hurt them but they can play a bit different + they are still the best equipped for 2nd place.
Atalanta could surprise taking the 2nd from them but 3rd is the lowest they`ll be.
Hope for them to fail and make us all happy but its really unlikely

Unlikely but not impossible. Napoli have a decent squad. Milan has a nice core too.
It’s funny that Milan will lose half of its starting midfield to AFCON in February.

I mean, ignoring the chances created lost by losing Hakimi and Eriksen (who some people forget really started to come into his own second half of last year), they've replaced 24 goal, 10 assist Lukaku with 7 goal, 4 assist Dzeko. Lukaku also had 11 goals 2 assists in CL and EL for Inter, Dzeko had 6 goals 1 assist.

The step down for them offensively is staggering. You have to replace those goals, nevermind replacing Hakimi who was a terror on the right wing for them. And I don't think they'll replace Lukaku with any significant replacement. I don't consider Zapata a significant replacement so you can understand where I'm coming from. Better than Dzeko but not a significant replacement imo.

Also, they must replace the brain of Conte and I'm sorry Inzaghi is okay but he's a significant step down.

Muriel is the most clinical attacker in Serie A last season

ISA Week 1 preview :

Verona vs Sassuolo (Draw 1-1/2-2)
  • Both have new coach Verona with Eusebio Di Fransesco and Sassuolo with Dionisi
  • In terms of players ability, Sassuolo is slightly better but Verona is not left by much too
  • Di Fransesco (Sassuolo just came from 2 disastrous seasons with Sampdoria and Cagliari)
  • The lost of Locatelli will affect Sassuolo and their new player (Mattheus Henrique) is not full fitness ready
  • Player to watch : Barak (Verona), Boga (Sassuolo)
  • I predict this will be a game with so many goals, with just a little slightly favourites to the home team (the ambience will be different after 2 years without fans in the stadium). But Draw will be the fair result for both team to start current season
Inter vs Genoa (Inter to Win by 1 or 2 goals margin)
  • While Inter lost Conte, Lukaku and Hakimi, they still to stronger for Genoa
  • Inzaghi formation and Conte using the same 3 man at defense will make the players don't need to adjust much
  • With the advantage of playing at home, this match will only need a deadlock broker from Inter players
  • The tricky part is Lautaro Martinez is suspended and Alexis Sanchez is injured so they probably will play Dzeko as attacker
  • They can put their hope to break the deadlock from set pieces too with Calhanoglu as the ball deliver from free kick (Inter's player to watch)
  • And for Genoa their player probably Zinho Vanhausden that actually come on loan from Inter because there is hype about him as one exciting talent
  • Inter have the better side in defense and midfield against Genoa, so we can see the goal(s) can coming from 2nd line or from set pieces
Empoli vs Lazio (Lazio to win by 1 goal margin)
  • This is the game where the unexpected result can happen, but I still predict Lazio can overcome Empoli
  • Lazio with Sarri as their new coach will have problem in adjusting in new scheme
  • But, looking at their players especially in the midfield and attack, they have the players that suit Sarri system
  • They have Lucas Leiva as holding midfielder to be the director and connecting from defense and attack
  • SMS and Luis Alberto will be the creative orchestrator that support by both wing in form of Felipe Anderson and Correa
  • And they have their goal getter in Immobile
  • If Lazio's player enjoy the system and can play at their best this can be a lethal combination for every side in Serie A
  • But that is a big IF, so this is where the unexpected result will happen (especially in their early cometitive matches)
Torino vs Atalanta (Atalanta to win by 1 or 2 goals margin)
  • Juric is a new coach for Torino, while Torino has their existing core that pretty solid for low mid table club
  • Torino lost their goal getter (Belotti) , but same can be said for Atalanta who lose Hateboer and Zapata (injury)
  • Atalanta will be without De Roon , Toloi, Freuler because of suspended, but they still have Pessina, Pasalic and Illicic, Muriel and Malinovsky to cover the midfield and attack area
  • Demiral will give a strong presence there as center back after Romero goes to Spurs
  • And this is will be the game that winning by side with better organization and cohesion because they already played the same system for years
  • The only upside for Torino is Juric that I put as one of the upcoming coach in Serie A and he can be said as mini Gasperini. But Torino will need time to adjust with this Juric style. And I don't really think they can withstand the attacking from Atalanta by parking the bus
  • I can think the goals coming from Gosens, Muriel, Illicic or even Malinovsky with his long shots
  • The best that Torino can hope is that is not Atalanta day and snatch 1 point from them
