A little update of last day`s 20:0 game:
Pro Piacenza were beaten 20-0 by Cuneo in today’s Serie C game – the Italian third division – but that’s only half the extraordinary story. The result is shocking, the circumstances in which it came about even more so.
Pro Piacenza have been struggling with bankruptcy practically since the start of the season and the players have effectively not been paid. They went on strike and forfeited several games already this term, but one more and the club would be thrown out of the league. With that in mind, a makeshift crew came to Cuneo for the match.
They were all teenagers, only seven players available and no Coach, so the 19-year-old captain had to sign in as tactician. There have to be at least seven players on the pitch to continue the game, so when one got injured, the kit man had to go on instead.
And this is Juve23`s group, Serie C, group A... This is waay more sad than it is funny. You would expect something like that to happen in Nigeria`s 7th division or in a peasant amateur league like Bulgarians, not in Italys 3rd tier... This is a major, major concern for the Lega Pro, a huge problem needs to be adressed very quickly and adequatelly, something that those people in charge have already proven they`re not competent enough to do so. Sad, really..
