De Vrij is not mediocre or above average; he's consistently one of the best defenders in Serie A. Don't bend facts to suit your narrative. We don't need him, seeing as we have Chiellini, Benatia, Rugani, and Caldara, and therefore he's unlikely to want to come here and warm the bench more often than not.
As for Torreira, he's probably too slight in frame to fit Allegri's style, but he's definitely no downgrade on The Accidental Footballer or this current version of Khedira. Hopefully we're passing up on the opportunity to sign him because we have a couple of quality CMs lined up.
I respect your oppinion, but you're not saying anything different than what I said, just used different words. We dont need the defender, as what we have is superior to him, no doubt about the starters, then there are the young ones, who got the skills and potential, its safe to say that they are Italy's brightest CB prospects, or one of the very few, lets say it that way. We dont need another center back, we shouldnt see a free De Vrij as a market opportunity, hence why we are not in the game for his signature...
Torreira seems like a decent kid, probably if he is well coached and finds himself in a fruitful environment he can reach a level above slightly average, but also he might not do that, if he makes a wrong career choice, or decides to make a step up earlier than it should. He was already warned by Jorginho's agent, publicly, that if he joins Napoli, he would be a reserve player, a back up. He might be, or he might flourish and win a starting spot at Italy's second best team. Time will tell, but while he may be a useful and convenient addition to Napoli, he is not for us. You chose to compare him to the weakest mid we currently have, yes, we can all agree that he is better than Sturaro, I dont want to offend him, but he's not good enough to be a squad player here, he has to go soon. Torreira and out of form Khedira, yes, the south american dwarf can prove to be more useful, as an out of form Khedira walks around the pitch and makes like 5 passes and zero of everything else for 90 minutes. But an inform Khedira is a classy player, and we saw that last year, we saw that several times this campaign also. The thing is, if Torreira was to join Juve, he wouldnt be fighting for a spot vs Khedira, nevermind in or out of form, he would be a 25 mil back up player, behind Pjanic, Matuidi, Khedira, someone new and more established player that we could/should get, and next to constantly injured and unfit Marchisio and young and talented Bentancur. Now if we already have Bentancur, why would we need to spend money on another youngster who is definitely not setting the world on fire as we speak. Yes, he scored a good goal against us, he did some good stuff in another games this season, but thats about it.
We, as a club, as a team, as a unit, already reached the phase when we dont need to add what may seem as a useful addition to the squad, we dont need a summer of five, six, seven or more new arrivals, we can do with three or four, who will challenge from day one what we have as a starters and eventually take their spot, making those players who lost that spot a very strong options to have on the bench. I hope we dont waste our budget on those kind of players and concentrate on few, very few really good, strong, classy and established players, and probably we will do just that. We'll see, main thing is, missing on De Vrij and Torreira is not exactly a miss for us, and is definitely a good business for the clubs mentioned to be after them and close to signing them. That is how big the difference is between us and them...
