You only get a yellow if you are attempting to play the ball (ie. slide tackle). If you deny a goal scoring opportunity by fouling the player without attempting to play the ball then you get a red (ie. grabbing his jersey from behind).

But if you are outside the box and make a last man foul with a slide tackle, it's a red. Attempting to play the ball doesn't matter in this case.

Sorry, but that's not true. They changed this because of what I wrote.

I actually like it. The negative thing is that minute wasted on watching video replays, but it makes for a more fair officiating. This particular case was a tough one. The main ref couldn't decide and even the VAR took his time. Even on video replay it was a 50-50 call. No need for critics in this case.

it's a joke. It was even Guida looking at it and Tagliavento didn't bother go looking.

Milan with VAR are gonna get 20 penalties a season.
Or not get the 20 penalties they regularly got.

The good thing about this is that they won't make many, or any, blatant mistakes.

As all the new things, skepticism will surround VAR, but it's meant to improve the game and we need to trust it.

I very much doubt that, but let's see.

That's how it works. If the main referee asks for VAR's help, then the VAR makes the decision. If the VAR recommends to the main ref to review an incident, then the main ref watches the replay and makes the decision.

Well, if the VAR makes a blatant mistake despite the opportunity to watch an incident from many different angles, he's shooting himself in his balls and will prove to be incapable of refereeing.
In the past, the referees always had "I didn't see it" as an excuse. Now that excuse is gone. If a VAR or a main referee who reviews an incident still makes a blatant mistake, then he's risking a long suspension and a reasonable suspicion that he deliberately made the mistake.

Imo an improvement for sure, taking a second look at a situation WILL minimize the mistakes, it's almost guaranteed, but people are too busy bitching for no reason.

Only downside is how long it takes indeed, the Milan games first half overtime? 4 minutes because of one single Var use.
