Come to think of it, does anyone want to take a stab as to why we got 2nd under Ranieri?
because we had worldclass del piero who was insane that year
a trezegol banging in goals, and nedved as leader on the midfield.
and a coach able to create a serious defence out of very average players

But a number of things contribute to having the best defense, including ball management and possession. Milan doesn't have the best back four in Serie A but they had fewest goals against, so that should be rather telling.
Conte was telling how he wanted to have juventus play domminating, wel, this will also do alot.
alot, and seriously, alot of chances we conceded this year, is because we cant keep the ball in the team when we got pressured, that needs to change.
Milan for example, while its clearly no barcelona, are pretty good at keeping the ball in the team, looking for an opening.
we need to find our own way at doing this

I think Juve falling down, Inter not having a good first half of the season with Benitez, Napoli never becoming a contender were more essential in Milan's scudetto than anything mentioned here.

Look at Milan's CL results:
AC Milan 2 - 0 AJ Auxerre
Ajax 1 - 1 AC Milan
Real Madrid 2 - 0 AC Milan
AC Milan 2 - 2 Real Madrid
AJ Auxerre 0 - 2 AC Milan
AC Milan 0 - 2 Ajax
AC Milan 0 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur FC

In other words: they only won to Auxerre twice, drew RM due to Inzaghi once and drew Ajax due to an offside goal. Milan sucks bigtime even with their frontline, it's just this mediocre Italian league why they look good.
Well sure, if Barcelona was playing in Serie A, Milan might not have won the Scudetto either.

Milan made a team for the scudetto, they are now building one for the champions league
also, the inexpirience of allegri, did alot. but he's a good coach so surely they'll do better next year

Saying all these things, we should try and get Marcelo from Real now that they are getting Coentrao.

He sucks defensively but he is a monster going forward.
Mourinho will use Marcelo as a LW or LM. He simply has too much talent to stay at a defensive position. There's no way Jose is selling Marcelo.

There. Molinaro-Chiellini-Legrottaglie-Grygera was the second best defense in the league in 07/08 and we had the third best in 08/09 despite Ranieri's problems. Organisation of the defense is very important, look at how well they performed in the RMadrid matches in the CL.

Well, you've played the game, Cam. Things become more clear when you're actually on the pitch seeing how things work in first person.
I played for almost 20 years from Ohio to Germany...I'm no expert but I know my shit. ESPECIALLY SINCE I WAS A DEFENDER MY WHOLE LIFE!

Not that I don't agree with you but your biggest flaw us that you always state your personal opinion as fact.
I mentioned in my first big response to Ran earlier that its just my opinion. I can't factually prove it, other than stating common sense and tactics to support my ideas/reasoning. So unless you have read everything I wrote this morning I recognize that it sounds like I'm saying it as factual.

Exactly!

Even though it's relevant to discuss the quality of our defenders, especially our fullbacks. It's even more relevant to discuss the defensive organisation, because a well organized team that can put a good and consistent pressure on the opposing team do not need world class fullbacks. They need good defenders but not world class.

We have to define "world class" here because you sure as fuck cannot buy a world class attacker for the money it costs for a guy like Cissokho/Coentrao. Unless you consider Jo/Bent/Diego/Adebayor/Keane etc to be world class.

That doesn't make any sense at all. A WC striker will ALWAYS cost more than a WC defender. Offensive players naturally cost more. As andy said, they are the ones that put points on the board.

Right so we better get a fucking world class attacker. If not, don't spend 25M on another fake WC player like Diego, buy a fullback.

There is Barcelona, as the only option in Spain. Don't close this thread! Not that they are not the most desired team now and naturally he would be great there, but I don't see Messi sharing the crown and Barcelona being able to buy him and Fabregas at the same transfer window.
This is the time you need a Moggi in your team. He would go there and convince the player his future lies with us. The boy might want to, but he will not be allowed to go to RM. By the time he might go there (2 years min in another team), Mourinho is likely to have left. Just go and convince him that if we are not Scudetto competitive in two years, he would be allowed to leave for a close amount. Do something Marotta! FFS everytime a really good player is linked with us this board fucks up - i am getting sick ... :inter: Are they expecting someone in this new stadium?
