Hey guys, this is my 1st post here, though I have been around these forums for a while. I am from Ecuador and I can say I know Castillo pretty well as a player, and even though i would love to see a fellow countrymen signing for an elite and my favorite team like Juve, I don't think he's what Juve need right now. As most people here say, our priorities are on defense and we already got a lot of players on that position already. Nevertheless, if this does happen (the media here in Ecuador is already saying this will happen), lets hope he's part of a bigger signing like someone else said here.......

I was an avid fan of Barcelona (from Ecuador not Spain)..but after a couple of dissapointing performances and the lack of heart that players gave to the team I decided since 1998 to give all my support to Juve. Since then I have always followed and supported Juve with all my heart.

He is definately not a playmaker....he is a strong player which perhaps better ability is the destruction of other side game and recovering the ball. He might be a good replacement of Zaneti and playing alongside Tiago might make a good combination. The only thing that worries me is how much may take him to adapt to italian football, which in any event may never happen. Hope this helps man...If you need more info let me know.

Castillo makes Juve claim
Friday 20 July, 2007

Red Star Belgrade midfielder Segundo Castillo has unexpectedly announced that he will be playing for Juventus next term.

The Ecuador international’s comments were made to the Serbian Press and came completely out of the blue as the 25-year-old has never been linked wih the Old Lady.

“I will be playing for Juventus next season,” he is quoted as a saying. “Next Wednesday I will be signing a four-year deal with the Bianconeri.”

Castillo impressed at Red Star last season as he hit eight goals and helped them secure the Meridian Superliga title.

He is set to return from Venezuela this weekend having been in Ecuador’s squad for their First Round Copa America dismissal.

In sum, Castillo never said he will play in Juve as Goal.com published, but his agent Jorge (Guerrero) is supposedly in talk with Juve in Spain.

Its as if ranieri wants to be able to field 2 totally different teams match-on-match
you said it, thats the tinkerman. I know its sad that we aint giving a chance to our youngsters.. however I dont know if its only me but i find it quite exciting to have 2 totally different teams for the manager to play around with. Either way if its true then i wish marchisio is given out on a loan, preferably to a serie A club so he can prove himself on the big stage.

Marchisio is better off being loaned to gain Serie A experience. With Zanetti and Nocerino, it gives experience and youth..and Castillo gives us more cover.

in saying that, it kind of makes it clear that Ranieri wants to play a 3 man midfield and at least we have cover for this.

what concerns me is the amount of wingers and second strikers who will we have who will be gunning for the 2 positions playing off the main striker.

I'll say it once, I'll say it again... Secco is not qualified for this job. He was the goddamn team manager before being appointed his current role. I'll say that even if he signs goddamn Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite.

This Segundo Castillo move to Juventus reminds me of the Giannichedda announcement he made in March 2005 - some 2 months before the actual transfer happened - after breaking a pledge of secrecy.

The move has been trailed for around 2 weeks now and it looks 95% a done deal. Juve management do not like these 'leaks' for obvious reasons.

Questions have been asked in earlier postings about the strengths about the quality of the Serbian league. Well, there's not much doubt that Serbia is currently experiencing something of an upturn in their footballing fortunes, given the recent U21 performances, the main national side and the competiteness of Partizan Beograd and Crvena Zvezda.

Castillo plays the kind of Tacchinardi role but also, and this is the really good news, is good for a minimum of around 5/8 Serie A goals in a season. He should be unveiled to the media as soon as Thursday 26th July in readiness for the start of the new season.

These are clearly exciting times to be a Juventus supporter.
