Today marks the 70th anniversary of an important victory in Juve’s history. On 28 June 1942, the Bianconeri lifted their second Coppa Italia, four years after the first success, which arrived in 1937/38.
Milan lined up against Luis Monti’s men in a two-legged final. After enjoying a glittering playing career in Turin – winning four of the five consecutive titles in the ‘Quinquennio’ period and the club’s first ever Coppa Italia - the Buenos Aires-born midfielder also appeared to possess the midas touch as a manager.
That particular Juventus side featured the likes of Foni, Rava, Depetrini, Parola and Sentimenti III. Yet it was Lustha, the striker born in Kosovo but raised in Albania, who gunned down the visitors in a thrilling second leg at the Comunale.
On Sunday 28 June, the Bianconeri and Rossoneri locked horns again in the return encounter, following a tense 1-1 draw in Milan. This time, however, the result was never in doubt. Man of the match Lustha struck a sensational hat-trick, with Sentimenti III also on target from the spot.
