We've always known that this player is capable of so much ever since that trezeguet assist in serie B. Since then, we've all been waiting to see him fulfill that potential. Truthfully, despite certain moments of brilliance every now and then, he has failed to consistently show that he is as good as we thought he'd be.
Fans got split into two groups. Some who admired those rare moments and clung to the hope that he'd be able to one day consistently perform and some who got too frustrated with his inconsistency and wished he would leave the club.
I used to be in the first group before I gradually moved into group two. There was a time where I wanted to see him play every single game because I was convinced that he was capable of single handedly decide games. After Del Pieros juventus days were all but over, I desperately bought into the idea of a heir, someone to take that role but time would tell that there will never be another Alex.
For a long time we were sitting on a goldmine with del piero in our side. And now after so many years of seeing strikers walk in and out of the club, his value is proving to be even more immense.
This year with Tevez, I think we've come closer than we ever have to confidently say that we have a striker who is genuinely a game changer, and does so consistently. The rest have shown so far that they sometimes do get their day in the sun but more often than not, they don't.
And finally Giovinco, I've got to admit that the goal he scored today and the way he scored it lit up a lot of emotion in me. This is a guy who's been pretty much abused by Juventus fans, the media, and with our additions in the summer had dropped to 4th or 5th striker. A lot of respect should be shown to him for never giving up. The way he controlled the ball when he received it, then got away so seamlessly from Zapata with a dummy before ripping the ball literally through the net with a very classy finish was such a joy to watch.
I don't think giovinco will ever be the juventus legend we all at one point wished he would be. But he can be very useful for this team of used properly. I hope he gets more support from the fans, because really, at this point, with this horrible form and shocking lack of creativity, we need all the help we can get to find our form again. And if it comes in the form of a highly controversial, below-short height striker, then we should take it.
