Some expect him to be like messi which he isnt.. others (like yourself) make him to be like Giach or Bojan which he also isnt.
I think he is a quick forward player, with bad composure in front of goal, that cant win 1-1's in tight spaces, but has a good pass, good shot, and great burstspeed.

Against chelsea, his role was perfect

Allright

19/20 : More a attacking left midfielder then a supportstriker. Incredibly good technique, agility, ball controll, long shots, technical curvy shots, freekicks and passing. while this appeared to a few players, the brilliance and genious of his decisionmaking to do the unpredictable, or succesfully perform tricks and shots that no one would, coupled with the vision, made him among the 3 most exciting players under the age of 20 in the world. also very adept at keeping possession against physically superior defenders, pure on magnificent ball controll

23 : before the injury, his greatest period in his career. He polished up his technical attributes he allready had, and matured mentally. best player in the world.

28 : on his best post injury. agility and speed had slown down, but became physically better, and the effective range of his shots was better. Creative focus in the center and consistantly top3 support strikers in the world. Was also carrying juventus on his back, allready a leader.

33 : after a few lesser seasons where he switched between brilliant and annoying, rolled back the years and consistantly performed, despite beeing physically absolutely not the player he once was, made the most of his great vision and movement to get into dangerous positions. Unlike giovinco, still cannot get pushed off the ball without fauling him, his ballcontrol is still better then pirlo's. kept scoring goal after goal after goal. dragged a significant inferior juventus side to two top table finishes, while showing in bernabeu what a fucking boss he still was. ended his career as prominent world class striker, against real madrid where he scored both goals and got a standing ovation

37 : in decline, when left unchecked and unpressured still a pretty good player, but physically in severe state of decay. started missing his shots and passes. not a player worthy of a top italian team anymore. going to a league where double marking, keeping spaces tight, and disrupting buildup are unknown things was a very good decision. keeps scoring

I want to hear you analyzing Ale.
He has been my favorite player since 1993, i watched every game from him i could.

Just the fact alone, that giovinco who is faster, gets knocked without the ball every single time, and ale, who was slower, never got knocked of the ball without fauling, purely in vastly superior ball controll, tells so much about the gigantic diffrence in quality.

I also consider it an insult if anyone compared giovinco to ale. You just dont compare average to legendary.

I am shocked that I actually agree with most of this :D

Although I think he could have still been a very useful player for us.

I have been spoiled with Del Piero for most of my life, and when it comes to "creative forwards", it will take something damn special to make me consider it close to good

Yes, when we counterattack a team thats high pressing with high defensive line.
Then you put in giovinco to kill them off on counters

Been telling this since last spring, and against chelsea, he showed exactly that. we shouldnt sell giovinco for this reason. but he shouldnt start if there arent injuries/suspensions eighter

I was talking about ale
No man, italian defenders will just double mark him and confine space around. he is to old to use all that technique and skill. He cant get into good positions quickly anymore.
not to mention it takes two weeks usually for him to recover from all the trauma comming from tackles to the shin.

In 2008 he played his last mastercard

You let his age affect your judgement. Look at his games in the last 6 months. He played very little but he always looked sharp. I am sure if Conte didn't know it was his last season he would have featured more.

alot of players of his age complain about the time it takes them to recover from a game. usually more then a week. i think its a combination with conte wanting to field the newer generation, and del piero not recuperating nearly as fast as he used to

I agree with you that delpiero on his prime had better ball control than pirlo. He was excepcional and I still think we could have stood with him and kept quags, gio and vucinic. Because the reason he left was to make space for a top striker but that didn't happened.

And an old del piero on his day, used from time to time, is still better than all our forwards, maybe with the exception of quags who is in the best moment of his career. Yes, an old del piero is that good.

You couldn't have misunderstood the Del Piero situation more if you tried :D

Your talking about the agnelli conspiracy?.
What I stated above was the “football reason” that led to his departure, but of course there are a lot of events that points to a more personal agenda than anything else, but ill not go into it and that's not the point of the discussion.
