I'm not singling you out on this, but it seems that a lot of people are having issues over the price for Giovinco to come back.

Let's think about this for a second.

Juve, according to reports, have paid 11 million in cash to return him to Juve.

Subtract the 3 million paid out by Parma last year, and that is now 8 million.

Now, let's take a look at the quality of player that is being brought back for 8 million.

A 25 year old AMF/SS who led Parma (Parma, mind you), to an 8th place finish last year. 15 goals and 11 assists.

A player who was also given something that cannot be valued or quantified in monetary terms. He was given 2 years to develop his game. 2 years where he was an everyday player. With no guarantees, despite what others might think, that he would have gotten nearly as much playing time in those 2 years had he remained at juventus.

So you have to ask yourself if a net 8 million euro payout for 2 years of experience where he had a great season last year, was worth it to juventus. Probably secure in the knowledge that A) Juve had every intention to bring him back, and B) the only way that Parma, a team which has had excellent relations with Juve over the years, would have kept him for that 2nd season would have been if they had a vested financial interest in him.

Keep in mind that I am sure that others would say that they should have just continually loaned him out. It simply doesn't work that way when you are discussing someone of his talent, and age. This was probably the only way that this deal could have been done, and quite honestly, it could have probably only been done with Parma.

To me, to get a 25 year old player who had the type of season that he had , for 8 million, is very good piece of business.

actually it's 7 mil they also paid a mil to loan him. I still dont want him here though :p

All we guaranteed Pirlo was a two year contract.
You sure? I heard somewhere that we offered him a guaranteed amount of games as he wanted that given his age.. Pirlo was a great player back then but he was injured in Milan and none really valued him as much as we all do now, so i believe he asked for some sort of security...
Are you sure though?

I can't find my Cronio$ calculator.
No Need. Here is how this works

Parma received him on loan for 1 million, which Juve secretly paid back at 100% interest= 2 million

Parma then purchased half of the player for 3 million, which again, Juve paid back at 100% interest = 6 million

Parma then received 11 million for the player, at no interest because Parma was feeling generous = 11 million

Factoring in the jersey sales (mainly the junior sizes) that were lost for the last 2 years = 6 million

Loss of revenue for image rights for shaving cream (Bald head), Teen choice awards, Leapfrog Leappad children's learning tablets = 13 million

Therefore, Matt's calculation of 38 million was correct

I think issue was that AC Milan only felt he had one year and even then he didn't feature in Allegra's plans. We just offered the two (or 3) years he wanted. Any player of Pirlos quality would feature in heavily in any side. I guess the guarantee was mutual
