Mirko was a huge reason we got the Scudetto. Absolutely. However, I think your comments about Giovinco are a bit premature, man.

We won't know much about how he performs under pressure until he's playing meaningful games for a top club. Last meaningful game I remember him playing for us was against Chelsea - and he was pretty good in that one. In fairness, he was also quite good down the stretch for Parma, as it became apparent that they had a crack at Europe - so that bodes in his favor as well. I thought he might fade after his good start, and as the season wore on - just because of his lack of physicality - but he looks like he's made pretty decent gains in his strength and conditioning since he was with us.

As for the part about ranking his prospect behind Miccoli, at least from the vantage of stats, Giovinco's numbers were better at age 25. He's also coming off a lot of discontinuity as well, so I don't think that projecting his career is a particularly easy task at this point.

I feel like it could still go either way, but provided things don't get stupid with Parma, I think he could be very useful.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on the first part. There is no way of knowing whether or not Giovinco would have folded under the pressure. There really isn't much of a sample size to go off of during his time with Juve. He had splendid moments, and he had disappointing moments, which is par for the course for any player where one of his primary attributes are a flair for the dramatic.

Whether or not he is a provinical player or not has yet to be seen, but one could argue that he and Vucinic have almost, and I state almost, followed the same path.

Vucinic was all-world during his formative years at Lecce, whereas during his time at Roma he scored a goal once every 3.5 games, give or take. Yes, a bigger club than parma could ever hope to be, but also taken into consideration that he had Totti who was still at or near the top of his game during those years, whereas Giovinco last year had Janet for half a season, and not much better than that this year.

Also, Giovinco's primary role is not that of a goal scorer. He was never projected to be an 18-20 goal scorer. He was projected to be a facilitator, and score any where from 10-12 goals per season. A mini-Vucinic, one would say.

Although I am very neutral on this whole Giovinco situation, it is evident that his accomplishments at Parma are to be lauded, regardless. How that translates to a bigger club, with a role that does not mandate that he be the focal point of the attack, remains to be seen.

No one besides param were interested in giovinco, and none of the coaches he had at juventus trusted him to start. can be useful yes, can be relied upon? no. as much as mirko is criticized for disappearing he still came through huge and gio has not shown that and will prolly never show it. So to once again to say that gio is better than mirko is simply laughable.

Both in 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 Giovinco's rival for a starting spot is Vucinic.

Our opinion and rating of both players aside, lets take a look at it this way:

- Three days ago Vucinic said that Conte was the one who strongly pushed for him. Even if he didn't say that, it was obvious that Conte has a soft spot for Mirko. The man plays him no matter what.
- Marotta says that we will buy only one player or two. Might or might not be true, but I guess that we do plan to spend a lot of money only on one or two players, with the rest being very cheap signings or free transfers.


Since Giovinco will probably cost us some 10m eur if it goes to blind bidding, I have doubts that we'll decide to spend that much on someone who's destined to spend lot of time on the bench. Ideally, we'd get him because I sincerely doubt we will buy a star SS and make Mirko the 2nd choice SS/AML, just like I doubt we will buy a better sub for Mirko than Seba.
But it might easily happen not to even go for Giovinco. Seba will certainly want to play more regularly, which is normal, and he probably won't get as much playing time in Juve. On the other hand, even if Giovinco is willing to hit the bench, it's a question if Juve are willing to pay 10m eur or so for a bench player.

Personally I'd get a top forward, get rid of one of Matri, Quag and Borriello, and get back Giovinco. An attacking force of Cavani, Vucinic / Matri, Giovinco + one of Qaug and Borriello + Pepe for the 4-3-3 is rather strong. But Giovinco and Marotta might not agree with this. The former would like more playing time and the latter might not want to spend big on a bench player, especially since it's a player we fully owned not too long ago.
