Gio would give us an edge up front for sure. Take some of the burden off of Mirko and we would have 2 tricky players providing for Matri, that way Matri won't be getting as isolated anymore.

Lavezzi would fit that bill really well, but we aren't getting him. And adding Gio would be as good as we can get this winter. Also, him instead of pepe would only be better for the team, regardless of how hard he works.

I'd buy Shaqiri/Ozil/Reus/Gotze/Ramirez to bench Pepe's ass once and for all. Gio and Pepe for rotation, with Vucinic and one of the aforementioned names starring in an attacking trio with Damiao/Higuain/Jovetic or whatever top striker we choose to bring in (Borriello is not it!).

We can't keep playing Pepe just cuz he works hard and all that shit. Once we qualify for Europe and come up against quality teams, Pepe will be rendered useless, because his finishing, crossing, and ability to beat his man are appalling!

Really? It would actually put much more pressure/defensive work on the midfield than actual attacking gain. If it was for a better player where you would get more weight on attack (pun intended) then yeah, sure.

Not to mention that an overworked midfield could end up in of the starter midfielders getting injured.

Your point being? His lucky streak can't last forever; he offers almost next to nothing going forward. Wouldn't you rather have a quality upgrade in that position and keep Pepe on the bench to run at tired defenders after the 60'th/70'th minute of a match?!

I have never liked Pepe, and never will. Yes, I do want a quality upgrade, as I feel with a Ramirez/Ozil/Shaqiri/Reus/Gotze we'd be far more dangerous going forward, while compromising little at the back. Hence, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages in this respect.

My point is that you claim he's not good enough against quality opposition, yet he did just fine in those games.
If anything, he's better suited to strong opposition, then he is against weaker sides.

My point is also that I'd rather play the best possible team, regardless of the names. And I do mean best possible team, not best possible players.
Right now, Pepe is one of those 11 players. Like it or not.
And if we add Giovinco (or one of the guys you mentioned), he may still be one of those 11 players. Who's to know?

I don't agree with Conte when he says Pepe is irreplaceable, but I do realise that maybe, just maybe, it might be extremely difficult to do so in our current set-up.

I agree with you, to a certain extent. Pepe seems the best, because we've only ever had the chance to see Pepe in action. Krasic has been off form, Elia too lazy, and the others are just not good enough to challenge Pepe as of yet.

However, should Pepe get some healthy and quality competition, we shall truly see what he is worth. I definitely don't believe that he's irreplaceable, nor do I hold him in such high regard as many others do.

He is invaluable to the setup, but I'm sure a quality upgrade with a footballing brain can most definitely do just as well, while making us look more potent going forward.
