I'm not at all worried about Giovinco not getting enough playing time. On the contrary, he will be very much needed this year, especially this year since we have shifted our formation to a 4-3-1-2.
This season, Gio will be Diego's direct replacement in our new formation. And whenever we have a serie A game that's close to a C.L game, Gio will probably start; he will probably start regularly in all of our coppa Italia games and he will definitely be given chances when Ferrara opts for a team rotation in the later part of the season due to exhaustion and so forth.
Lastly, Giovinco will just have to plainly and simply prove that he's good enough to start for Juve. He's going to have to make the most out of every single chance he gets and if he succeeds, I'm sure Ferrara will find a place for him on the starting line-up. And that's precisely what I love about this Juventus of 09, in contrary to last year's Juve where we all knew Giovinco should be starting but Ranieri was just too much of an idiot to realize it, this year is a lot different.
We know that the best team we have at the moment does not include Giovinco, and this really demonstrates how much better we have gotten after signing Melo and Diego. Instead of us needing to play Giovinco in order for us to spark some creativity into the team, it is now Giovinco who must prove that he truly deserves to be in the first team.
And honestly speaking, Giovinco is not a future prospect anymore. He's 22 and he still has a lot to prove, almost too much. Look at players like Rooney, Messi, Aguero, Fabregas. All of them proved themselves at an exceptionally young age. Giovinco only showed promise at the age of 19. He was still developing as a player and he still has many flaws to his game.
I think he has a lot of potential and I believe he could be very convincing given the chance, but I don't see any reason for criticizing Ferrara's philosophy thus far in leaving him on the bench.
