I see alot of knee-jerk reactions from people who havent seen him play enough (in Azzurrini games in particular) or thinking too simple in what works or doesnt.

He was really Italy's only spark going forward. He tried hard, but was surrounded the whole game. Showed a lot of skill though. Almost scored off of a curling shot from just outside the box. The keeper made a pretty good save.

He was quite good early, decent movement off the ball, and very quick feet, but looked very tired from about the 70 min mark on. Had Freshwater shown up, and Balotelli not tried to do everything himself, things might have been a little different. Had a couple of really good chances, and should have scored when he found himself 1 on 1 with the goalie... mishit his shot, due to pressure from behind - rushed it a bit.

In the end, Italy really should have lost this game. The Serbs were physical, and very well organized at the back; they really closed down the passing lanes nicely. Consigli also made a tremendous reflex save late, and Kacar (I believe) also smoked one off the post...

Serbia's defence is really good not just this team even in the last european U-21 tournament two years ago they had the best defence there.

Gio will do much better in the next game, am pretty sure about it.......

He wears No.14 in Serbia U-21. Yesterday he played as RB but it's said that he can play anywhere in the defense and his best position is CB. He made a strike in yesterday's match and was saved by Consgli.

Genoa bought him for 1.7M. I think they really have a good eye for young defenders. They got Bocchetti from Serie B (who was the best defender in yesterday's match, IMO) and they have Ranocchia (who is considered as one of the best young Italian CBs).

Both Serbia's fullbacks yesterday are usually CBs it seems, both was quite defensive. Petkovic, the LB, wasnt that impressive eitheri, just solid, their real LB star is Obradovic who is way more offensive and better. Usually starts for the NT, was on the bench because of fitness after injury.

I only saw the 2nd half, Gio was absent for the most part...made one nice move along the right hand corner flag though...got the FK, then delivered the perfect cross to Freshwater
