Ican't see Aberdeen getting anything off Smeltic unless they have a major Euro hangover.

Celtics reserves could beat us, judging by our first couple of games.
Celtic aren't all that clever either judging by recent form...

Poor pre-season

Firing blanks against Killie...and did you see the game against Falkirk?...they passed us off the park for 60 minutes...couldn't get near them...good game for the neutral to watch though:agree:

Who would have thought Big Hughes would be such a proponent of good football?

...after what I've seen this year I think the dark side will get the major honours this season!

Moscow was slightly better, but could easily have come back 4-1 down

Rangers are shite aswell. The standard of the whole league is terrible.

Aberdeen will play with 10 men behind the ball the whole game on sunday and Celtic will win 1-0 win a deflected goal with ten minutes to go.

The standard's not top notch, but why should it be?

Small country, limited resources - don't be too hard on it - we punch above our weight...look at Aberdeens Euro history...provincial team from a minor northern country beating Real Madrid in a Euro final...the stuff of dreams man:agree:

Look at the EPL - 85% of the games are utter dross - what's their excuse!

The best footie I watch week in week out is in Portugal And Spain...consistantly of a high standard, except for the gamesmanship...the French stuff can also be good on the eye...but I always come back to Jock footie no matter how tempting it is to give it a bye

I'm not comparing to other leagues, that would be foolish due to the relative resources.

I believe the league will be much poorer than in previous years.

Unfortunately I can;t leave it alone since I have too great an emotional attachmentment to Aberdeen.

The thing is, the pureist have been lobbying for years to give youth a cance...this is the season when we'll see the strength of their argument...most teams briming with Scottish youth.

Even the Selic fielding strong Scottish talent.

With Setanta now free on Virgin its a good chance for them to showcase themselves to a larger English audience

Jeez my spleling is carp

For the last 5 years the teams (other than Rangers, Celti, Hearts) have been playing young Scots, financial constraints leave no other options.

When Aberdeen won at Tynecastle last season we had an all Scottish starting XI, 6 of whom had come through the youth system.

I can't think of many non-Scots in Fergusons teams either, and look what they achieved...

I know there isn't a lot of interest in Scottish football...why should there be?...I'm not interested in most non major euro leagues either!...but tell me people...how many here actually have access to the SPL on the telly through sat or terra TV?

Just curious, as it seems that people from the most remote paces on earth can tell me about goals scored in such exotic footballing hubs as Inverness and Gretna...

...how do they see these games...and why bother watching when there is better, more entertaining things on TV such as re-runs of Manix, Barnaby Jones and The Sullivan's

its been great over the past 5 years that youth has been given a chance, and i think that one of the main reasons the national team is doing better is because of this and dare i say because Berti gave them a chance at international level.
yup...good point. Bertie got it wrong in a number of ways...but he did open the squad to players at a level of experience that in the past wouldn't have got a look in...perhaps the lack of quality at a more senior level forced his hand

But i think have to say the rule that requires teams to field 3 U21 players in their squad is pointless. What benefit is it to young players to sit on the bench and never get close to being subbed on?This is the case at Rangers and to a lesser extent Celtic. Surely quality should be the key reason to get your place in a match squad and not your age. Think of teams like St. Mirren who will be battling to stay in the SPL this season and cannot field their strongest squad for matches because they are forced to include 3 players because they are under a certain age.

I do agree with this rule to some extent, but 3 players is too much.
I understand were they are coming from, but as you have pointed out, when played through it can be a major diss for struggling teams...even Walter Smith has passed comment this week.

Hey, what is the latest on the SFA video replay idea?

My understanding is that FIFA won't allow it due to them not being keen on retrospective punishment when the referee has seen the incident.

In other words, a typical old firm victory!
Typical at Pittodrie. At least we don't get thrashed by themnowadays like some other teams. Having said that we'll probably get thrashed now.:groan:

Just hope Celtic are knackered after playing in Moscow midweek.

I didn't see th game at Greyskull today but I assume Falkirk 'had a go' as you say.

I think it was probably more due to Falkirk being incapable of defending rather than being too attack.

Whers is Bozi anyway? Hearts 1-1 Gretna

Falkirk have now conceeded 11 goals in two games: the price for playing good footie in Scotland

From Auntie:

Walter Smith praised the bravery of Falkirk despite John Hughes' side slumping to a heavy Premier League defeat at Ibrox in Glasgow.
"We were delighted to get seven goals but we had to work very hard for it," said Smith.

"Falkirk play some good football, they don't sit back and defend.

hey guys, good to see good discussion on here.

man hearts game yesterday was excruciatingly painful, gretna came for a draw at best, they were time wasting with 35 minutes still to play and celebrated like they had won the league at the end.

stil we should have beaten them easily and until we get bednar, pinilla, cesnauskas (the only really good litho) back match fit then we are gonna have a lot of trouble breaking teams down. at this moment in time we could not score in a brothel with the kesys to romanovs bank vault.

worse still is the form of young lee wallace, looked like he could be a really cracking player when he broke through but so far this season his positioning has been awful, his distribution terrible and his decision making shocking, i would have put jose goncalves in there half way through the hibs game.

on the plus side andy drivers goal was an absolute beauty, larry kingston is back and stewart is finally looking like he is ready to fulfill the promise he showed at old trafford. but until we get fit strikers or buy someone in we are gonna struggle

Just in from Pittodrie. For almost an hour we were great, totally dominated Celtic but couldn't get the second goal we needed and deserved.

Our team clearly isn't fit as with 20 mins to go we were knackered, pre season in Egypt has backfired big time.

On the plus side, Strachan got sent off for reacting to abuse from the fans. :p

Big improvement from Hearts game but we will keep on shipping late goals until fitness levels improve.
