His flaws were covered by pogbas energy and it allowed him to be a passenger with Marchisio and Pogba.

He's been terrible this season, I've not seen him win possession back, he accellerates at the speed of a freight train to close the opposition down and he's missed countless opportunities. Also he loses the ball too regularly and his passing is basic at most

I would like to see statistics because from what I see Im not conviced that even Pjanic wins the ball more often than him. The only thing I like about him right now is those runs into the penalty box. Witsel would probably be improvement over him atm.

Of course he deserves critique of he doesn't contribute much defensively? It's not just tackles, if you not that type, your ability to read and position yourself should lead to more interceptions. But his overall defensive contribution to our midfield, especially one without Marchisio, is bit of a concern.

I do believe he's one of those players who does a lot of "unseen work". Especially from a positional perspective, but I do think some of the criticisms people have of him are not without validity. His lack of athleticism is an issue, and his technique while good isn't good enough to always make up for his lack of speed. Especially when we play teams that pressure. People will retort with the fact he was very good defensively today, and I would agree, but his deficiencies were also on display. It's not coincidence that in the games where the opposition press high he disappears from an offensive perspective.

Sami plays way too much and doesent have the stamina to do so at such a high level CONSTANTLY anymore i think, so we definitely need to give him rest more often and have Lemina in his place. just for comparation, last season he played in 25 games (all starts) in all competitions, and had played a total of 1982 minutes. this season half way through he already played in 19 games (again all starts) and has a total of 1582 minutes. obviously plays much more than he did last season (last time he played so much was 12/13) and that after an international tournament in which he played 5 games within less than a month last summer.

so give him more rest and keep him fresh for the most important games is what i think will help him get back to his usual level

Unnecessary Sami bashing again ::lol3:: I thought he had a perfectly reasonable game against Roma, but as he generally isn't flashy as a player he gets slated. He actually came away from that game with an assist :D

And yes I would agree with the fact that he hasn't played this much football in a long time and that Allegri should rotate him with Lemina more than he does. But against experienced, top teams in the CL, I want Sami starting instead of him.

His form has fallen off a cliff. His positioning and defensive awareness is still top notch, and his ability to see the field is very good... but the fitness and endurance he was showing at the start of the season has vanished, as has his ability to make simple passes and finishes. It's like he is so lethargic on the pitch right now, he just doesn't have it in him to finish anything. Should be given a nice long break over the holiday, and rotated heavily with Lemina/Sturaro/whoever we might get in January... so he's fresh for the CL. We need the class, fit, and in form Sami from the first month of the season. Not this gassed version of the last 2 months.
