Sadly I think that will be correct. The assault on Kyiv is going to be horrible as well. I think Russia is going to increase their bombing and encircle Kyiv, starving it out. Then it's going to be hell on earth combat in the streets.

And the same for Charkov, although infantry according to reports is mainly focussing on Kiev. Once they have Kiev, Mariupol and Charkov they’ve a line dividing the country between west and east. Many people will be trapped. Or better said they’ve a good opportunity to push south and north from their respective positions to create that line.

EU/NATO is acting but probably not fast and severe enough to stop this.

i have no idea how modern warfare works, and i'm 45, certainly older than the average on tuz. fortunately this is most likely our first experience with a more or less covered war in europe in internet times, so obviously we're all over it. anyway, it is what it is.

btw does eu have a backup plan if russia shuts off their natural gas export? with all the sanctions in place, it's only a matter of time i guess.

Kyiv seems to already have major supply issues, just 5 days into the conflict. While the large 40 mile column to the North isn't making much progress, probably due to waiting on supplies themselves, it's only a matter of time until they start rolling. So, hopefully someone is making an effort to get supplies to the city while they can, otherwise it will be a human catastrophe real quick.
