i think it’s a move to stay in power more than anything. Russia is doing terribly economically and in every other way. Miserable population, etc.

He’s been saying for years that the collapse of USSR was the biggest geopolitical disaster of the 20th century (not WWI or WWII lol). It seems pretty clear has long harboured aspirations of restoring the old Soviet Union to its former glory.
