It's a BBC show. That should answer your questions.

It's not a BBC show actually. It's a an HBO series, with a lot of BBC actors. HBO is pretty well known for having quite good shows though, such as Sopranos and Six Feet Under. As far as I know, most of the show is pretty close to the historical facts. Though the story of the two main characters is, except for their names, fictional.

Try http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/rome/ or the link from there to HBO.

It's an entertaining show...but in terms of history, it's no more than very loosly based on the true facts of this period in Rome
I doubt there's such a thing as "true facts". I study history and we always learn to take things like that with a pinch of salt. Sure, they could have made the show more historically correct, but you're never going to do it 100% right, because fact is, not only are there very few sources of what exactly happened besides the big events, those sources are also interpretations that will again be interpreted differently by every historian.

Well put...but some things aren't disputed...such as where Ceaser was when he assasinated...it wasn't in the Senate.

Still, at the end of the day...it's good telly and I'm looking forward to the second series

Yeah, that's true. I'm a bit sad they didn't put in the "tu quoque, fili mihi?"-part, well actually if Caesar actually said it would have been Greek, but anyway.

Kevin McKidd's come a long way from his Trainspotting days...Ciaran Hindes is superb as Caeser...but Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo is a real 'find'.

Another series has been given the go ahead, so we'll find out how the whole thing pans out

I agree, especially the final episode was thrilling.

While I think Caesar's death in the series came to soon, it is undoubtely one of the greatest TV death's ever. The cowardice and the desperation in which the act is done, you as viewer are shocked first time you see it. People on the hbo.com forum crying how they just wished they could've jumped in their TV or people screaming at Caesar "don't go in there"!

    Great television.

I remember you Grecul...but I can't remember the discussion...although it does sound like one of the things I would have got in to if brought up.
