its RTS, but I dont like that game, I like RTS like: Warcraft 3, Age of Empires 3 etc. not when u just have the command of an army, I wanna build bases and forces and gather resources. Im an oldschool RTS player.

Grew up with games like Command & Conquer, Wardraft 1,2 etc. :D

Not a bad game, but battles are too easy once you get the hang of it.The AI doesn't exploit the weaknesses of the system enough.

Just swarm them with heavy infantry that don't have to deal all that much damage but last as long as possible in combat (just go for the appropriate upgrades) while you repeatedly rush their flanks with light cavalry by charging and withdrawing.

Rinse, repeat.

well the reason why i asked is because i feel like the game tries to hinder some progress by accomodating history, i used the scipii too and had taken over carthage pretty quickly (around the fifth or sixth turn of play) so the game was given me all kinds of trouble to get out of it.

Well, I was a huge fan of the series. RTW let me down. Aesthetically is was perfect but the campaign was too shallow. Has any of you tried the expansion?

One of the best strategy game ever made,
i am now finishing the expansion,
it has more details than any other,
    (save the civilasation titles),
it has the magic combination between management and battles,
it excells in every field and its very very realistic,(no orks, dwarfs, elfs, undead and the likes)
even the smallest detail counts and unlike other games who are called "strategy" games to win a battle u have to do smth more than select all and click to the target

I reckon its not a game everyone may play,
its a hard game, people need to think and many hate that,
so they prefere pure action and games like NFU were a 5years kid could play,if u want a game just to relax and waste some total war isnt the game for u,
if u want to create smth then its one of the best strategy games around and i chalenge everyone to name one better.(dont mention any "rise and fall" as it isnt launched yet)

    There are opinions and opinions,
some people like PES/FIFA some people like football manager,

same goes for strategy games:some people like Total war/civilasation type of games some people like warcraft/DOW

It can be too easy I tell you.Get a couple of top class assassins, murder just about every leader in every town and the rest is a piece of cake. It's a great game but the game can be exploited.

That's exactly what making great games is about, balance. In every game balance is everything. There are lots of games that have very little room for exploitation; Rome Total War has a couple of weaknesses but it's still a great game though.
