Both have a shitload of great movies, both have also become somewhat of a caricature lately (in some movies, obviously not all).
I'm gonna have to agree with those who say De Niro is (a lot) more versatile, so he's my pick. Also, if I were to make a list of my personal favourite movies, there would be (far?) less Pacino ones.

My favorite movie for De Niro is Taxi Driver.

And his scenes in Godfather 2 makes me go crazy.

Nah sorry, this comparison is invalid. I love both, but De Niro is from another planet.

Al was better, De Niro played in better films.
In the past years, Al's films were mostly crap... just like the latest generation of Italian defenders...

    Al Pacino all day everyday. When Pacino is in a movie, you just know he's going to make it good. He was great in the Godfather series and Donnie Brasco.

    both great actors, comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges, imo - one just doesn't do it :p

    if I were to go by the number of great movies, milestones-in-film-making great, then De Niro would be my clear winner.
