I honestly thought he was pretty decent against Spain which sais a lot given how everyone else played. Aside from Donarumma, Califiori and Barella - the Italian players looked awful but that is partly due to Spain's pressure and partly due to the lack of a proper game plan. In my view Donarumma was man of the match because it could have easily been a rout without him.

When you really think about it..donna and barella are the only top notch players italy has. Chiesa on his day is up there too... but other than that...everyone else is just bang on average.

I know it's easy to knee jerk react over a few games but it seems pretty evident that he can actually play ball and is a more modern defender. He looks so calm under pressure already. That's pretty rare. Getting a solid defender isn't too difficult but finding one that can also play out from the back and not punt it is important

Plus you know.. Italian. Usually means we can keep him around as long as we want.
