    It worked......I was being a dumbass. :D

I don't like it though..........there's that annoying little window and it doesn't go to full-screen, unless there's someway to change that.
f for fullscreen, read the section about controls again ;)

Gandalf, yes it is command line based but once you associate all your video formats with it, there's no need to touch the command line and hitting keys on the keyboard to control playback is faster than clicking with the mouse anyway ;)

Hey, maybe I'll check this out. I always just went with MPC cos it plays everything and doesn't have unnecessarily large ugly buttons and bars. I dunno how happy I'll be without a GUI though :undecide:

EDIT: Oh wait, I just read the above post. It's not like I need to open Mplayer on its own. Cool

MPC is decent but it crashes too much for my liking. I used it myself for quite a while and it would work fine most of the time, but at times it would do the famous use-100%-cpu-cycles-and-freeze act. Then the other day I was installing it for someone else and I couldn't get it to work at all. Tried 3 different codec packs and nothing helped. So I tried mplayer instead and what do you know, without a hitch. :)

Gandalf, what the hell is this?? http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/images/shot-gmplayer-windows-01.jpg
Looks like it's not completely impossible to get a gui in windows afterall.. :dazed:

A little note on performance, my Centrino laptop has cpu frequency scaling and as I run it at the lowest possible frequency, 600MHz, I can watch a dvd (known to be fairly cpu intensive) at fullscreen with no hitch. ;)

Well that's no problem, just unzip it with winzip or unrar or something that handles tar archives, that's the least of problems..

    Works for me..

But I don't think the skin works in windows, at least not the build I have. I unzipped it and put it at mplayer/Skin/default and trying to get mplayer to use it but it doesn't work:

    Code:
    h:\>mplayer file.avi -skin default
    MPlayer dev-CVS-041023-09:31-3.2.3 (C) 2000-2004 MPlayer Team

CPU: Intel Pentium 4/Xeon/Celeron Foster (Family: 8, Stepping: 4)
Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
    CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled with runtime CPU detection - WARNING - this is not
    optimal!
To get best performance, recompile MPlayer with
    --disable-runtime-cpudetection.
    Reading config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf
    Reading config file d:/multimedia/mplayer/mplayer/config
[b]Unknown option on the command line: skin[/b]

well, I think I should wait till some developer develop something for windows users... I searched the net looking for the latests of "mplayer for windows" and I did find something, but again, I couldn't dowload it... the download progress stoped in the middle of downloading.. this is really getting on my nerves..

another reason for not using Windows Media Player 10. ^0^
    source = http://www.vnunet.com/news/1160436

Malicious Trojan infects Windows Media Player

Security experts have intercepted two malicious Trojans hidden in video files that download and install spyware, diallers and computer viruses when played in Microsoft Windows Media player.

PandaLabs warned that Trj/WmvDownloader.A and Trj/WmvDownloader.B, are spreading through P2P networks hidden in video files. These Trojans take advantage of technology incorporated in Microsoft Windows Media player called Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM), designed to protect the intellectual property rights of multimedia content.

When a user tries to play a protected Windows media file, this technology demands a valid licence. If the license is not stored on the computer, the application will look for it on the internet, so that the user can acquire it directly or buy it. This technology is incorporated through the Windows XP Service Pack 2 + Windows Media Player 10 update.

The video files infected by these Trojans have a .wmv extension and are protected by licences, supposedly issued by the companies overpeer (for Trj/WmvDownloader.A), or protectedmedia (for Trj/WmvDownloader.B).

If the user runs a video file that is infected by one of these Trojans, the files pretend to download the corresponding licence. However, what they actually do is redirect the user to other internet addresses from which they download adware, spyware, diallers (applications that dial-up high rate toll numbers) and viruses, security experts at PandaLabs said.

Below are some examples of the malicious programs and viruses these Trojans download:

    Adware/Funweb
    Adware/MydailyHoroscope
    Adware/MyWay
    Adware/MyWebSearch
    Adware/Nsupdate
    Adware/PowerScan

    Adware/Twain-Tech
    Dialler Generic
    Dialer.NO
    Spyware.AdClicker
    Spyware/BetterInet
    Spyware/ISTbar
    Trj/Downloader.GK

"Even though these Trojans have been detected in video files with extremely variable names which can be downloaded through P2P networks like KaZaA or eMule, bear in mind that they can also be distributed through other means, such as files attached to email messages, FTP or Internet downloads, floppy disks, CD-ROM, etc," PandaLabs warned.

For further information about Trj/WmvDownloader.A, Trj/WmvDownloader.B or the malicious programs and viruses these Trojans try to download, click here

I believe the new versions of BSplayer(1.+) have more bugs than the old ones(0.+),
or its just a codec thing,
my point is if u have an older version and works fine,
    dont upgrade!

In light of the issues I've encountered while working on my season compilation, I've decided to give this a try for real now.

When was the last time Martin was wrong about something like this :D
