I never was really on to something in this because it's all down to personal opinion. Actually it's a futile discussion.
FACT: A lot of the threads here tend to degenerate into futile arguments because we have a lot of people who know it all.

Nah, that title goes to the BOY BAND or Britney Spears "pop" industry. That is what you call a joke.
    That too... big time.

I don't know, I guess it's how people react to a given style of music. There are many who recognise Abba, AC DC and Beatles, those who remember Culture Beat, Haddaway and 2 Unlimited; Darren Hayes, Sophie Ellis Baxtor and Ian Van Dahl...

We all come from different generations/backgrounds and appreciate the variety we were exposed to.

But at the same time, to live in an information age, and BE INFLUENCED by what's being played in clubs and the radio- that I don't understand.

Sell-outs... Agreed that it's one of the most abused arguments against successful artists. Just because someone can make worthwhile music doesn't mean they should starve ... or that they shouldn't be empowered to bend over for the ad agency promoting Doritos and make a little cash on the side if they want to.

The beef I have is with all the artists who cop a 'tude about their street cred, their keeping it real, their being from the streets, their being above reproach ... when in reality that's a whole facade of crap that just helps them live large in fat mansions in the burbs ... producing music so tired and recycled that Doritos opens up their big checkbook for them, because their association with them will ship a whole lot more bags of sour cream and onion.

Rap is dead? Anybody who said that, has to get out of his house and buy the new album from The Game. That guy is actually rapping about Compton and his life there. Finally not another "I got *****es, money and cars" dude, its really a new generation of Hip-Hop. IMO this album is the best since a long time.

by the way, does anybody of the Americans here know German Rap?

why can't be about how society is corrupt, or how millions of ppl are living in poor conditions, or about any contemporary issues, or even about personal life. It's all about MONEY, CASH, HOES as Jay-Z puts it. Look at every rapper, there is nothing NOTHING different about any of them. I used to love Rap, but i'm just getting sick of this shit. That's why i listen to foreign rap now, it's much better.
dj shadow, gold chains, de la soul, kanye west(depends), beastie boys, outkast, cLOUDDEAD, rjd2, aesop rock, lil jon and the eastside boys(depends)

you have to find the good hiphop. look out for the label def jux.

Yeah man, finally someone who knows what they're talking about. The Game is indeed a great newcomer on the rap scene and he is true to his roots. His new album "the Documentary" is one of the best in the past ten years, right up there with the good Em shit. Game is bringing the West Coast rap back into the picture and it's hardly what you call "sell out rap."

Not too many people here know what they're talking about.

Well I guess that's just a matter of opinion. Thank god we don't all think that way though.

Ja Rule is the worst rapper on the face of the earth probably, i feel embarassed saying "rapper" next to his name. He and Jermain Dupree should get together and make the worst song in the world.

and o yea, maybe Puff can feature in it, since he can't make any song by himself.
