Rami, all my life I've been told that it's not permitted, this is the first time I hear this. Got any source?

Ramadan Kareem to all the Muslim folks out there

It's pretty cool here, work hours are half-day as per the labor laws in the UAE so I get to go home early :D it's pretty much the same all over the Gulf as well.

It's not a Haram if you fast when travelling but it doesn't have a proper meaning but avoiding drinking and eating.

Good luck with that one, all you Muslims. I respect that, it's very hard. (Yes I've tried)

What's the idea behind the fasting anyway? Why do you do it?

well.. there r many reasons behind it.. one of the reasons is to feel for the ppl who dont have much to eat .. so by fasting you are feeling wht they go through everyday..

Well, these are the reasons I heard:

1-To feel the meaning of hunger and thirst TO try to be a good person TO avoid the hell and the hunger & the thirst of that which is much harder than this one.

2-To feel the meaning of hunger and thirst TO think 'bout poor ppl who are LIVING with such feelings TO help them.

3-And the most important one is to improve your determination to control yourself in difficulties.it's really hard not to drink when you're thirsty or not to eat when you're hungry.with fasting you learn to dominate your lusts and prevent them dominate you.

Oh,and one thing more.your fast will be spoiled with EVERY sin you perpetrate, even with the insignificant ones.if you avoid eating and drinking for about 12 hours, but you lie for example, your fast will be false and this is why you see all the Muslims such nice ppl in Ramadhan :D

You can use this smily if you've broken your fast--->Iftar (I dun know what you say in Arabic though I think this word's Arabic) :D

    I can see reason #1 and #3.

#2 I don't get. I don't mean for this to sound derogatory but don't a lot of Muslims live in poor countries? Like Sudan. Fasting is pretty much an every-day thing for them, and not by choice.

It is in Arabic, but im sure every Muslim knows the meaning of the word..
Its kind of international, also in my languge (Albanian) its the same word, same meaning..

by experiencing hunger n thirst, it gets us the feeling that the poors experienced everyday..
it gives us a thankful feeling for God for being luckier than them. Of course that's not the end of story. Our thankful feeling should be applied by helping others.. by then, our fast would be meaningful..

and plus, when we fast, we have to control anger desire too.. If we angry, then it would be meaningless..
