Exactly.

And I see no reason why should we pay 3-4 for him. It's not like he's terrible and plus look at the other players and their prices.

If Bonucci is valued 15...6mln for a player like Marquez wouldn't be a lot.
It's about the wages and the length of the contract. We got burned by offering high wages to older players so I'm guessing we'll be careful from now on.
Marquez won't want to play for the 500k-1m that guys like Bonucci earn so that automatically means that we'll offer less for the transfer fee.

Wages play incredibly important part when you buy a player and teams include them in the calculations. If Bonucci earns 1m eur a year in 3 years, and he's bought for 15.5m eur, then including taxes, what Juve will pay for him in 3 years is ~21m eur. If Marquez earns 2.5m eur wages, like Zebina does, and we pay 6m eur for his transfer, then in 3 years we'll be paying a total of 21m eur for him. Same as Bonucci. But after 3 years we can sell Bonucci and earn money. For Marquez that won't be possible.

So it will also depend on the personal details we'll agree with Marquez. If he accepts smaller wages, then we might pay Barca 6 or 7m. If not, then we will try to get him for 3 or 4m eur.

Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez is to join Thierry Henry at New York Red Bulls on a four-year contract, Goal.com can exclusively reveal.

The 31-year old defender had eyed a move to Major League Soccer before playing at World Cup 2010 with Mexico.

After starring for his nation in South Africa, he has now negotiated a release from his contract with the La Liga champions - which was set to run until 2012 - and has put pen to paper on a lucrative deal in the 'Big Apple'.

Speaking exclusively to Goal.com, a well placed source confirmed the deal will be officially announced next week.

"Marquez has signed for a four-year contract with the New York Red Bulls and will join up with Thierry Henry," they said.

"Marquez has gained his contract release from Barcelona and will get a salary of £2 million per season. The official announcement of the deal will be next week."

The move brings to an end a glory-filled seven year stay in Catalunya, where Marquez won every club trophy available. Despite this success, a series of injuries had limited his influence in Pep Guardiola's set-up and he was restricted to just seven top-flight starts.

Marquez's arrival means he joins Henry and Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel to fill the limit of designated players at the Red Bulls.

MLS rules state a squad can only contain three designated players on high wages, with the ex-Monaco man's arrival sure to smash the salary cap.

This is very worrying. The MLS is becoming the NASL with the New York and LA teams being stacked.

Marquez still has a few years left in him. Not good for DC United. And hey, send us some fucking good players FFS, and stop stripping us of our Emilios and Freds.

Mexico is close. Send some scouts and start from there. Then move to South America.
Why would you expect Europe to send you players? :D Instead of waiting from the Europeans to send you the old guys, work more seriously in the south.

Cant we look for a better defender?
We can and likely are doing...but the choices are limited. Any potential centre back purchase has to consider that Chiellini is a definite starter, whenever fit or not suspended, and as we spent big on bonucci, he will likely be the other starter in the middle. So anyone pondering joining us, has to accept they will likely be, at best a bench player, rarely able to even consider breaking into the starting Xi unless bonucci turns out shit, or him or giorgio suffers a nasty injury.

This makes things tougher.

the search for a left back should be easier, for whoever we sign, knows that the starting jersey in that position is most definitely up for grabs.

At left back we need someone hungry, determined, strong and quick. In the middle, to back up what we already have, we need experience, or energetic youth, someone willing to either grab with both feet and paws at any opportunity they get, or someone who we all know, can do the job, whenever asked to step in.

Heh, well, MLS has been looking at South American talent. Every MLS club seems to have at least a couple South Americans. The Galaxy loaned the "new Juninho" called Juninho from Santos and they hope to secure him to a longer deal.

But I was speaking more to the fact that DC United's top players were stripped from them by the league and placed on other teams this past season. Now our best player around here is freaking Santino Quaranta. :sergio:

We got Emilio back a month ago, but cut him because he sucked.

What a waste of money to keep signing end-of-career players from abroad. Beckham's arrival didn't change to the state of of the game as was expected here, who was the most known footballer in this country, and he didn't even stay. MLS is coming a retirement home really.

Beckham put people in seats. That much is certain. But he's a mercenary.

It is turning into the NASL all over again, but this time the league is in better shape.
