Yeah, now. Russia was part of it or The Soviet was. Great Britain and the USA is as much the saviours of Europe - especially when you think what they did to the countries they liberated. Iron Curtain anyone? But did you know that Stalin signed a peace deal with Hitler and until Hitler started attacking Soviet interest, Soviet couldn't have cared less about Europe.

All in all the Soviet Union was a terrible Stalinistic Regime which killed millions upon millions of their own citizen.

Oh and I completely agree with Alex that far too much praise is given to the Americans and too little to the Russians for how WW2 ended favorably for "us" in Western Europe. It's not a black and white case though, since the Americans did send regular supplies to the massive Russian army even before the yanks got involved in the war, but the main load was on the Russians.

As much saviors of Europe? Get the fuck out with that seriously. The groundwork for what the US and Britain could do after WW2 was payed for with Russian blood and sacrifice - what good would the Marshal help have been without that?

Oh, and I'm still of the conviction that the Soviet Union never really got a fair chance to compete, and therefore had to become such an authoritarian society. Lets not forget the economic factor of it all, either. Soviet industry and infrastructure was virtually not there after WWII, whereas the US economy benefited greatly from it. The US were responsible for half the worlds total GNP in 48 and were never open for economic collaboration with the Soviets.

If blame is passed on France and England for the situation in post WW1 Germany, which inevitably led to Hitlers rise in the 30's, then the US is equally to blame for the situation in the Soviet Union and all the horrors that brought with it.

Acting positively for the good of Europe during WWII, after USSR got provoked, does not justify the aftermath in any way. There are lots of factors to it, none of them as black and white as we all like to paint them.
