Didnt had the time to properly test it, i ll be back with a proper preview in a couple of days, but i ll try a quick/sloppy one now, for the ones who are too eager:

-The graphics have been improved, they are at least as good as last year's FIFA, the games seems to be smoother and faster overall and i didnt even tried to optimize it with a patch or a new video card driver.
Actually i think that the ball goes faster, but the players are less pacey, esp the Juve players when facing Spanish teams, like Real...

-Long shots are much much harder to score, for both players (me and my buddies) and AI

-The animations of the players are still there and give a natural feel of the game, this is the main characteristic that make it seem more realistic than FIFA, but FIFA 2009 is greatly improved on that
and i have the feeling that PES 2008 had more realistic animations, maybe because ithe ball speed was slower though.
The details on the player's jerseys and skin are remarkable, they have finally reached FIFA standards!

-The CL license is a nice addition and gives more prestige to the games, me and my mates only play CL clashes from now on.
The CL theme only, is enough to make us feel more determined than ever...

-Without any patches applied, the faces of the players seemed to be extremely well made. (DP looks 5 years younger than the PES 2008 version.)
Even our our new holland logo and the exact color of our second jersey are on spot (our roster includes Almiron though)

-The ball physics are changed, cant tell yet if it is for the better or not, the ball seem to be heavier though, but i can calculate lobs much easier than the PES 2008. The keepers have slippery hands, they rarely get to block the ball, even Buffon.

-AI midfielders are extremely efficient when defending, at the top difficulties

-The refs are much more objective

-Players dribble much more than any other time,(even Trezequet) the controls are greatly improved, but i do have the impression that they are less sharp the the ones i tried on the demo.
But they are def much better than last year, the player can easily realize what has on his mind. Crosses and lobs are much more accurate but the through balls fail most of the time.
(but somehow they work wonders for the AI)

-The grass seems a bit less realistic, but it gives a true 3D feel, which helps a lot when you have to make a precise tackle, or try for a header.
The field of depth is extraordinary and if you also considered the precise control of the ball and passing, makes the game much more tight at close counters.
Really love it, because i ve always hated the arcade-ish feel, loose control FIFA had.

-We can select jersey before every match, even Master league games, so we dont have to play with the same colors as our opponents, as we used to do with PES 2008

-Team play is really important in this version, just like i like it the most, individual efforts are possible, but hard enough, but what it really works the best, is quick passes and combinations between, 2-3 players, for an unstoppable combo.
The AI is also extremely competent when using this tactic. And thats exactly what i love watching in football the most:juventus:

-The game also looks better at older/weaker systems, like laptops, at the lowest detail settings.

-The new menu is horrible IMO, but it works and have more options than ever

-The horrible covering system, PES trademark has finally improved!!! A bit...

-The replays finally allows you to turn the camera at will, like at PES 2007

-The players are now more "control-able", maybe not more agile/manauvrable but they dont run like headless chicken anymore and they actually respond to controls when running at full speed chasing the ball, without any super cancel and such...
You can now easily cover spaces, selecting the right defender and guide him to interception course. that was impossible at previous PES

-The camera has been enhanced, changing angles and present the game more like a TV camera, without missing any important action, even when the camera is locked onto a player. It presents a better draw distance and has a 3D feel, making of the PES 2009, a true next gen game!

-The commentators are as horrible, as they used to be, some goes for the crowd...

-Molinaro cant tackle, cant shoot, can dribble, cant cross, but he is pacey enough, it seems that they got it right!!

-The player's animations where promised to be remade and very distinguished, but most of the Juve players, seem to have the same generic run animation. FIFA is one step ahead, they might need be as smooth, as the PES players, but FIFA players seem to have a distinguished running pattern.

-The player's interaction with the ball is far better in PES though.

These where my first impressions, i might change my final verdict,
but i can safely say PES is an improved version of PES 2008, not an innovative step forward, but this year the did tweaked the controls and focused on the things that make us love and prefer PES
At least, this year we cant blame Konami for not making changes in the the game engine!

A lot of people talking about that FIFA is better than PES this year. I got so angry that I've decided to download FIFA09 demo on the X360. Will play it in an half hour, then I'll play PES09 demo after that and come back here to exterminate one of the two.

i just got pes on the PS3 and the graphics are terrible, really disappointed with them - the players are pixalated and so is the background, and I have a HD tv so it isnt that and I cant understand why the game has seemingly gone backwards appearance wise.

The game play is quite good and it's a lot harder to get a shot on target from outside the box. Eto'o is amazing again though.

If people are thinking of buying it and they have an Xbox and a PS3 go for the Xbox version, i cant see the graphics being like this on that one

Thats for the review Cronios. But you left out the most important thing...what Giovincos stats are ;)
Giovinco is quite helpful as a player, a great dribbler and pacey enough, but just a bit too weak...
As for his stats, pretty good for a player of his age, most the important ones are above 80, some of them reach 85-87 and plenty of extra/special skills, like "dribble","side", "1 touch", "passing"
    Attack 75, defense 42, body balance(power) 72, acceleration 87, technique 86, agility 88

Dribbling and passing? ;) They underate alot of super talents in every game, I just want them to be more realistic and not force me to improve their stats.

Okay so I flashed my X360 to be able to play burned games.
Ofcourse I got PES2009 first. The first impression is that it awfully looks like PES2008. The main differance is that the gameplay is a bit slower and attacking is harder/defending is easier.
Next to that, there aren't really major changes in gameplay. If you like PES then you will like this game because finally you won't get constantly owned if someone pickes Barca because the defending has improved.

Now what are the main differences? The biggest main difference is that you have the game mode ''become a legend''. You make your own player in your prefered position (can't play GK or defender) and make his way to the top. It is really addictive because your player SUCKS and you really have to fight to win a place in the team. Scoring is very hard but as you play longer, his stats will improve, bigger clubs will come your way etc.
This can also be done on Xbox Live! You can link up with 5 mates I guess, and play it. Haven't done it yet but it seems cool.

What more is interesting? Actually, for me nothing, except for JUVE.
Juve is quite good. Del Piero is a legend cause his stats are based on last season (capocannoniere if I'm right). So he really owns. Chiellini rocks, Buffon is the best, Camoranesi is also very good.
You'd be suprised because Andrade is the 2nd best defender so I always field him. Midfield, Sissoko and Poulsen aren't that great but they are solid. Nedved isn't the player he was in 2008 but therefore we have a new name, GIOVINCO.
OMG this guy looks like a 6 year old in PES based on his height and weight. But he is a great dribbler and has a good shot. Very fast too.
Amauri is also good but his weakness is that he doesn't shoot with his left foot, only right.

So if you still have any questions about someone or something just ask them and I'll search it up for you.

Played it on PS3 for the first time a few days ago. I found it difficult at first (I've always been quite good at previous versions) but when I got into I thought it was great. As cunninlynguists said, the defending is much improved (Chiellini is a beast) and the play is more realistic IMO. It's not possible to dribble the whole pitch regularly like it was in Pes 08.
On Juve, I was pleasantly surprised. Gigi, Chiellini, and Del Piero are top players. I scored my first 5 goals all with Nedved but Giovinco is possibly better than him. I didn't think Poulsen was much good at all and Trez is a bit too slow IMO.

I haven't played FIFA 09 yet but I don't think I'll be choosing it over Pro.
