The Primavera began their European adventure with a 3-3 draw against Turkish outfit Fenerbahce. The six-goal thriller in the first clash of Group 2 leaves both sides with a point apiece ahead of upcoming NextGen Series encounters with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
First-team coach Massimo Carrera was in the stands to watch the young Bianconeri make their European bow at the Stadio Moccagatta. His colleague, Marco Baroni, made just three changes from the starting line-up that earned a 3-0 win over Pro Vercelli on Saturday. Branescu replaced Gagliardini between the sticks, Penna slotted into defence in place of Magnusson and Ruggiero stepped in for Isla on the right-hand side of midfield.
The Bianconeri started brightly and had two opportunities to grab the lead inside the opening ten minutes. Padovan was close to connecting with Emmanuello’s cross from the left-hand side, while Kabashi found his route to goal blocked by Ailinay racing off his line.
Fenerbahce’s response was instant, with Branescu called into action to push away Simsek’s free-kick.
But the hosts, cheered on by a strong number of Juve followers in Alessandria, edged their noses in front when Beltrame split the defence to set Padovan racing through on goal. The striker made no mistake and dispatched a cool finish past Ailinay.
With the clock ticking down towards the interval and the Turkish side growing in stature, they found the equaliser their efforts deserved when Simsek drilled a right-footed shot home to leave it honours even at the break.
Despite continuing their dominance at the beginning of the second half, Fenerbahce soon found themselves behind for the second time in the game. Padovan’s run was again picked out by Beltrame, and the striker continued his rich vein of form by registering his second double in the space of four days.
The visitors’ second equaliser arrived when Untersee’s under hit pass saw Yilmaz scamper through on goal. The referee awarded a penalty and Simsek stepped up to grab his own personal brace, despite Branescu getting a hand to his spot-kick.
Things went from bad to worse for Juventus when Yilmaz’s fine left-footed effort appeared to have sealed all three points with just seven minutes remaining. But Lanini, on as a late substitute for Emmanuello, saved the day with a last-gasp finish in added time.
JUVENTUS PRIMAVERA: Branescu; Untersee, Rugani, Penna; Ruggiero, Emmanuello (Lanini), Schiavone, Kabashi, Mattiello (Ceria); Padovan, Beltrame.
