After the first-team squad assembled yesterday in Val d’Aosta for the beginning of their pre-season build-up, today saw the turn of the Primavera.
Marco Baroni’s side regrouped this morning in Vinovo for a series of fitness tests ahead of tomorrow’s departure for Valle Pesio.
It will be a long campaign for the young Bianconeri who will be vying for success in four competitions: the championship, Coppa Italia, Viareggio Cup and, for the first time in their history, the prestigious NextGen international tournament.
Baroni will this year be assisted by Fabrizio Del Rosso, a man already familiar with the club’s young prospects, having coached the Allevi Nazionali last season.
“Fabrizio is a great worker and will give me a big hand,” said Baroni. “He also knows many of the players coming through after coaching them last year.”
New regulations will see Primavera squads field players born in 1994 and 1995. And Baroni’s young guns are set to be strengthened further by the return of several players selected by Antonio Conte to participate in the first team’s pre-season preparations.
“Having a large squad, as we did last year, enables you to face all competitions in the right way. The target is to do well, allow the players to develop and look to better what we did last season. The new rules have put everyone on a level playing field.”
No stone will be left unturned as the Primavera look to hit the ground running in their opening championship fixture on 25 August.
“We’ll be on pre-season until 24 July before heading off to Germany to play an international tournament in which we’ll face some of the best sides from over the world.
“On 16 August, we’ll be in Villar Perosa for the game against the first-team and we’ll play other friendly fixtures in between.
“The championship returns on 25 August and the NextGen competition gets underway a few days later.”
Baroni concluded by acknowledging the importance of Juve’s much anticipated first appearance in the NextGen tournament.
“It will be a wonderful experience, competing in such competitions means the world to the lads. We’ll obviously prepare as best we can to be competitive from the very off.”
