The Bianconeri’s only previous away trip to Donetsk came back on 8 December 1976, when Giovanni Trapattoni’s side faced Shakhtar in the UEFA Cup third round second-leg.
Despite going down to Stahurin’s solitary strike towards the end of the first half, Juve’s comfortable first-leg victory saw them safely through to the quarter-finals with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.
On that evening at Shakhtar Stadium, Juventus lined up as follows: Zoff, Cuccureddu, Spinosi, Furino, Morini, Scirea, Causio, Tardelli, Boninsegna, Benetti, Bettega.
The defeat failed to halt the Bianconeri’s scintillating European run which culminated in their first European trophy following an epic two-legged tussle with Athletic Bilbao.
