There's no guarantee of that, not everyone is soulless. You'd imagine those who made the banner would hardly be celebrating, but it's true that a lot of fans would cheer in the same position. They'd have Satan himself as owner if it meant challenging for trophies in some warped change of fortunes. But not all. It's easy to forget, but things change for fans and the relationship with their club once the money and football tourists roll in. I used to work with an old school Londoner Chelsea fan who went to every home game, got every programme. He had the money to keep going but when Abramovich came in the prices went up and the atmosphere down to the extent he just fell out of love with it. Now he goes maybe a handful of times per season to keep his eye in, I suppose.
You can see that the protest is against the laughable "owners test" and the continual whingeing from Newcastle fans about wanting "their club back". Really they just wanted Ashley out, because he was using it as a business. The club that yo-yo'd between the first and second tier for most of its history, and hasn't won a trophy for 50 years? A bit like Man City really, a pretend big club in the right place at the right time. They will insist that this does not mean an endless pot of money and buying trophies like City or PSG, just that "they wanted to compete". Well, the vast majority of clubs don't compete, fans sit and watch their clubs not get close to winning for season after season, and having the best fans evaa was never going to change that. The only way they could compete is either a billionaire takeover or a manager comes in and creates a dynasty from somewhere. But Newcastle fans are special and deserve special things, because life works like that.
