I think when most people talk about the best league they do mean the best out of the league's European football reps. And that's fair enough. I really doubt anybody truly gives a fuck about debating whether SPAL or Swansea are better. These debates are usually brought up by the fans from the top clubs anyway. Can't say I've ever met a fan of a smaller club that takes any joy whatsoever in the teams that dick on them in the league every year doing well in Europe.

So yeah, the EPL is the best league this season. Before that it was Spain and it wasn't even close. The non CL/EL teams are a tad irrelevant because they never play outside of their respective leagues there's nothing to compare.

Always hated the best league arguments though, probably because living in England the fans of big clubs here are fucking obsessed with the EPL brand. Sky sports has done a number on them.
You're right, or mostly right. The representatives in Europe are the best teams from the previous season, not the current one. Usually, those are the same teams year after year (in EPL and Serie A it's regularly the case). But in La Liga, for example, especially in Europa League, we keep getting different teams that do well or excellent. You can't imagine Bologna or Crystal Palace making it to the latest stages, nor you can imagine Arsenal or Lazio fighting relegation, but La Liga is strange. Villarreal made it to top 7 in Spain last year and right now they are still playing in Europe, but in Spain they are fighting relegation. Celta Vigo, 2 years ago, made it to EL semis, while in Spain they were 15th or something. That, among the dominance in the CL by the usual suspects, was/is what made/makes La Liga the best league. All their teams, no matter the domestic season, did incredibly well in Europe.

They’ve been scraping past shit teams whilst playing terrible football - got an extremely lucky last second penalty to get past a hapless PSG and now everyone thinks they’re a great team and he’s a genius. They’ve crashed back down to earth now. The squad is massively limited and overrated.
So scrapping wins and eliminating PSG is a good result for a coach with massively limited and overrated squad as you put it ;).

Seems like the opener will be against Inter? You got to win there
That's only a limited capacity (45k) exhibition match featuring ex-players, and some of them are in their fifties, so not sure how competitive that will be.

Real opener is against Crystal Palace in PL and then Man City in CL (!)
