When speaking of real wood, one uses the word 'wood'. If referring to any other kind of wood, one should add another word. These are unwritten behaviour rules, if you purposely did not include that extra adjective with the sole purpose of deception it more or less defeats the purpose of this conversation for starters.

Not necessarily no. It would either way still be very wise to point that out since assuming is a difficult and subjective thing and since, on this occasion, the parties involved are from different cultures and speak different languages which would inevitably lead to different assumptions.
