I see your hair is burning
Hills are filled with fire
If they say I never loved you
You know they are a liar
Driving down your freeway
Midnight alleys roam
Cops in cars, the topless bars,
Never saw a woman so alone

- From L.A. Woman by the Doors. I am generally one who finds poetry (and poets) superficial and pretentious, but this piece I find passionate and powerful espacially coupled with Morrison's vocals in the actual song.
You know morrison swiped riders on the storm from another guy right?

Here is a great poem. Bob Dylan's Mr Tamburine Man minus the chorus. Check it out.

Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand,
Vanished from my hand,
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship,
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wanderin'.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it.

Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun,
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin'.
And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind,
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're
Seein' that he's chasing.

The song evolved out of a Jam session when the band played ' Ghost riders in the sky' (by Stan Jones), and Jim got some of the lyrics from a screenplay he wrote himself.

Take this as postive critism Andy: Your poetry is extremely pretentious. Take it from someone who used to write it himself.
Care to be more specific of how it's "pretentious?"

Its superficial, corny, and its one of those poems thats made to look deep but it isnt. Take this for example, I wrote this in about 10 minutes and all I got commended for this by alot of people, and was called deep.

    Neonlight shines on the streetside
    Darkness pulls passionate madness
I see your mask is turning
    bring out all your learning
    Push away your sadness
    Fire burns your shoreside

This poem is about as deep as a puddle after a light summer rain.

But hey, its just my opinion. As is everything I say. It just takes alot more to write a truley good poem (or song) then throwing words together which sound deep and meaningful.

    Dream 1.0

    By Me

    I had that dream again
the one that tingles my skin
the one were you're getting married
the one where i’m feeling buried
you sit me next to your parents
we talk, eat, and drink some spirits
then we leave the rehearsal dinner
oh goddess why do you pick the sinner
we walk in silence into the dark
we dance for hours in the park
then the scene in the car
we just sit and don’t go far
    i am feeling so alive
    i ask you “what next”
and then you say “just drive”...

All you poets, have you at times, felt that you're not understanding what you're writing? Some of my recent expression has been incomprehensible to me and I dont know what to attribute that to.

Can you hear the sound of settling?
the Poor Man's cry and the Miser's meddling.
can you see the Salmon traversing a stream fast and blue?
not realizing the Montana Man's fly is his impending doom.
    too be continued
