    Name: Giovani dos Santos Ramírez
    Team: FC Barcelona
    Position: Attacking Midfielder
    Number: 17
    Birth Date: May 11, 1989
    Nationality: Mexican
    Height: 1.74 m
    Weight: 71 kg

    Youth Clubs

    2001 FC Monterrey
    2001-2007 FC Barcelona B

    Senior Clubs

    2007-FC Barcelona

    Biography

Gio is the son of retired Brazilian football player Gerardo dos Santos, better known as "Zizinho", who played for the Mexican soccer clubs América and León in the late 1980s; Gio's mother, Liliana Ramírez dos Santos, is Mexican. Gio has two brothers and two half brothers, the older Eder and the younger Jonathan who also plays for FC Barcelona, but in the Juvenil B category.

Gio's father can be recognized as the driving force behind his son's career, as he founded a school in Monterrey, named São Paulo in México, at which he coached his children along with many other kids[citation needed]. In 2001, São Paulo participated in the Dallas Cup, a prestigious youth tournament in the USA, winning the U-12 category with Giovani as the star of the team. After that accomplishment, Zizinho decided that Giovani was ready to begin a professional career and he managed to get Gio a trial with the Mexican first division team Club Monterrey in which he was immediately identified as a prodigy and quickly jumped the youth ranks to join their third division team.

U-17 World Championship and Later Career

During the FIFA U-17 World Championship 2005 wearing the number eight on his back Gio managed to assist on half of the goals of the Mexican team during the tournament, a fact that, combined with his abilities, awarded him the Adidas Silver Ball as the second best player of the tournament, finishing behind only the Brazilian Anderson.

After the U-17 title, Giovani returned to Barcelona, and went back to the Juvenil A category where he helped his team to make a comeback in the league and win the regional title. This title allowed them to participate in the Youth Copa del Rey, where they faced other regional champions, among them their historic arch-rival Real Madrid. Giovani once again played a significant role during the tournament and helped the team win the national title of the Juvenil A category.

In the summer of 2006, Giovani dos Santos was one of the few youth players invited to the pre-season of the FC Barcelona senior squad, during a friendly match on July 29, 2006 he scored in what was his debut game for FC Barcelona senior team against AGF Aarhus.Hugo Sánchez, manager of the Mexican National Team, has made public that he maintains communication with the player, and called on him for the first time for exhibition games against Panama and Brazil in early September. He made his début against Panama on September 9, 2007.

    U-20 World Championship

In the U-20 World Cup Qualifying round he scored twice; once against St. Kitts and Nevis in the 86th minute and the second against Jamaica in the 56th minute. He was forced to sit out the last game against Costa Rica due to the fact that he had received a yellow card in the previous match. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but Mexico still qualified at the top of the regional group.

During the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup Mexico was placed in Group C, where they were drawn against Gambia, Portugal, and New Zealand. On July 2, 2007, Giovani dos Santos and the rest of the Mexico played against Gambia and won 3-0, with Giovani opening the scoring in second half with a superb volley into the left-hand corner from outside of the box. Then Dos Santos played against Portugal, where Mexico won 2-1, with Giovani scoring the opening goal from the penalty spot. As Mexico had already qualified from the group, in the game against New Zealand he was rested. During the last-sixteen round Mexico played against Congo, dos Santos returned to the starting line-up and yet again opened the scoring with a goal from penalty spot, in a match that Mexico won 3-0. In the quarterfinals, Mexico were eliminated by Argentina. The game ended 1-0 and dos Santos was not as influential as he had been in past games.

    Facts:

Giovani is only the second Mexican player to play for Barcelona.
He made steady progress through the Barça ranks playing for Infantil A (2002-3), Cadet B (2003-4), Cadet A (2004-5) and Juvenil A (2005-6) He spent the 2006-7 season in the Barça B team.
The player comes from a footballing family. His brother Jonathan has also spent some time at Barcelona and his father (Zizinho) played for Monterrey in Mexico.
He was spotted for Barcelona after being scouted in a tournament in the US in 2002
The player is being called the 'new Ronaldhino’.
Giovani was a member of the winning Mexican team in the World Under 17 Championship in 2005 where he was voted second best player of the tournament and received the Silver Ball award. He also played for his country in the World Under 20 Championship in 2007 where he received the Bronze Ball award as the third best player of the tournament even though Mexico were knocked out in the Quarter Finals.
His first appearance in the senior team at Barça was as a substitute for Thierry Henry against Atletico Bilbao.
It is rumoured that Barcelona have had to put a £20 million buyout clause in place for the player following reports that Alex Ferguson wanted to sign him for Manchester United and that Chelsea were also showing an interest in the player.

My comments on Dos Santos: He has only turned 18 and is being tipped as being better than Ronaldinho.Fast kid and great dribbler already.Would be nice to see him in Juventus in future.

    Henri Saivet

    Name: Henri Saivet
    Team: Girondins de Bordeaux
    Position: Forward
    Number: 25
    Birth Date: 26/10/1990
    Birth Place: Dakar (Senegal)
    Nationality: French - Senegalese
    Height: 1m75
    Weight: 70kg
    Best Foot: Right
    International: France U17

    Palmares:
    France U15:
    Winner Tournoi de Val-de-Marne 2005
    Winner Tournoi de Montaigu 2006
    Clubs: Girondins de Bordeaux ?-present

    Biography:

Born in Dakar, Senegal on the 26th of October 1990, Henri grew up in Cergy-Pontoise, near Paris. He always played football, and a the age of 13, he went to Bordeaux for a summer camp with the Girondins. After the first hour, the man in charge of trainings called the Girondins' scouts to watch this incredible jewel. Saivet stayed for the whole summer in Bordeaux....
Henri always played in a higher age category. At 13 he played with the 14 years old (18 goals) , at 14 with the 15 (26 goals), at 15 with the 16 years old, and when he reached his 16th birthday, EPL clubs where already chasing him, which led Bordeaux to offer him a professional contract in April 2007. The 16 year old Saivet was the youngest professional player in the history of Bordeaux. By then, he regularly played with the CFA (reserves) team, and has been selected in France U17 squad.
This summer, Saivet was integrated in the A group, and has played a number of friendlies under the eye of his coach, Laurent Blanc.
Today he is a full member of the Girondins' team, and is closely watched by Tottenham (who already brought a £2M bid), Chelsea and Arsenal. He didn't see any playing minutes yet this season, but with players like Bellion, Cavenaghi, Chamakh, Jussiê or Edixon Perea, that is no surprise for a boy who just turned 17.

    Playing style:

Many alrealdy compared the young talent to Thierry Henry: fast, technical, the player likes to move around the whole frontline and to wander to the wings. He can play as a striker, but also like to play as a support striker or even behind two forwards.

    Personality:

Henri is said to be very cool-headed. He refused a move to the EPL, as he prefers to continue his learning process at Bordeaux. His young colleagues describe him as a leader in the changing room, a friendly guy who enjoys football a lot.

    Comments:

A rough talent with the right mentality, one to watch for sure. Even if he is touted the next Henry, he keeps his head cool and focuses on learning, as he just started playing on a professional level.

    DOS
    Elinkwijk

    Senior clubs:
    2005: ... PSV Eindhoven
    2007: → FC Twente (loan)

    Player Info
Ismaïl Aissati (born August 16, 1988 in Utrecht) is a football player for PSV Eindhoven. He plays as an attacking midfielder who possesses flair and vision. Being born to Moroccan parents in the Netherlands, he is still allowed to play for either national team, should they want him, until he is 22 years old. He also played on loan for FC Twente during the second half of the 2006/07 season.

    International Career
He was part of the team winning 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. In 2007 he was also part of the team that defended their title for the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship held in the Netherlands. Aissati played in the first match against Israel (1-0 win), but was substituted in the first half by Otman Bakkal due to an injury. After the Dutch win over Portugal (2-1) they secured a semi final spot and a qualification for the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as reaching the finals after beating England (1-1, 13-12) after penalties. The Dutch went on to retain their 2006 title by beating Serbia 4-1 in the final. He is an up and coming star.

On October 20, 2007 a Moroccan website stated that Ismaïl chose to represent Morocco internationally instead of Netherlands, and that Henri Michel the coach of the Morocco national football team will include him in the selection that will face France in 17 November in a friendly match in Paris. This, however, turned out to be a false statement.

    Champions League
On October 19, 2005 he made his first UEFA Champions League appearance for PSV Eindhoven. In doing so, he became the youngest Dutch player ever to play in the UEFA Champions League, taking over from Ryan Babel, who debuted also at age 17, but eight months older. In the match against AC Milan he came off the bench in the 63rd minute. However, on November 1, 2005 PSV Eindhoven played the return match against AC Milan where he played the whole match, with Andrea Pirlo as opponent, playing with confidence.

    Talent, Transfer
Aissati is seen as a great talent and he is one of the most promising Dutch players for the future. At the 2006 UEFA Under-21 Football Championship, Aissati reached the tournament all star squad, mostly playing against 5 or 6 year older opponents, Aissati himself being 17. Aissati was linked to European giants AC Milan, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Valencia CF and Sevilla FC. In September 2006 AC Milan made a bid of around 11 million, but PSV rejected the offer and said he won't leave for less than 15 Million.

    2003- Peru 15 (2)

Juan Manuel Vargas (*Lima, 1983 - ), is a Peruvian international footballer. His position is midfielder, and defense.

Vargas plays on the wing, in the defense, or in the midfield, in both offensive and defensive positions. Although typically labeled as a defensive player, he impresses with his ability to dribble the ball and make remarkable shots on goal. He is also known for his free kick ability.

'El Loco' Vargas got his start in the popular Peruvian team Universitario de Deportes where he quickly earned a main spot in the team by 2004, given his great play and his crowd-pleasing goals at key moments. He also earned a spot in the Peruvian national team roster. In 2005 he transferred to Argentine team Colón de Santa Fe, where he has also earned a spot in the starting line-up and the admiration of his coaches. In 2005 Boca Juniors became so impressed with the player that they bought 10% of his contract.

In August, 2006, he received offers from Calcio Catania of Italy and Portsmouth F.C. from England. It was reported that Portsmouth F.C. are interested in signing him for a reported $2 million, as part of the plan of new owner Alexandre Gaydamak to be "the next Chelsea F.C.", after his fellow countryman and Newcastle winger Nolberto Solano advised Harry Redknapp to sign him. He trained with the club for a few weeks, but the offer fell through for various reasons. He thus signed for Catania instead for 4 years.

He impressed in his first season with Catania, and had an offer from A.S. Roma for 4 million euros and Portsmouth FC, Juventus, and Liverpool showed interest in him. The Catania fans called him Catania's Roberto Carlos for his fighting spirit and his dedication to never letting his club lose.

He scored his first goal for Catania on October 31, 2007, in the 88th minute, tying Siena 1-1 and prolonging Catania's unbeaten streak to 7 games.

Comments: Excellent crosses, reliable defensively and wouldn't cost us a lot. He has Serie A experience and is relatively young. Would be an upgrade to Molinaro.

    Jan Šimůnek

    Born in: Prague, 02/20/1987
    Nationality: Czech
    Height: 188 cm
    Weight: 75 kg
    Foot: Right
    Position: Center Back
    Club: Wolfsburg

A dramatic six months and a record transfer fee have given the former Czech under-20 team captain a reputation to defend.

When the Czech national football team celebrated a stunning 3-0 win over powerhouse Germany in Oct. 17’s Euro 2008 qualifier, thereby securing themselves a place in the Euro 2008 finals next summer, young defender Jan Šimůnek found the reality hard to accept. “It all seemed unbelievable,” Šimůnek told CBW. “I thought I should pinch myself to make sure.”

Only a week before the all-important game, the 20-year old received his first invitation to the national team. Although he did not appear on the field against Germany, he is expected to make the team sheet for the Euro 2008 tournament. Some pundits even predict that he will soon establish a regular spot in the starting lineup.

“It’s hard to think about that right now, everything came so fast,” Šimůnek said.

    Record fee for youth

Although not yet accustomed to the limelight, Šimůnek’s profile has risen dramatically over the past six months, starting with the Czech under-20 team’s unexpected success in the World Championship in Canada in July. Šimůnek captained the junior team to silver medals in the competition. Many of the young players were then expected to attract interest from top European clubs.

In the end, only Šimůnek and goalkeeper Radek Petr transferred abroad. While Petr’s departure to Italy’s Parma Football Club did not make a big splash, Šimůnek’s transfer was remarkable.

Despite having just one cap for the senior Sparta team, German Bundesliga’s VfL Wolfsburg did not hesitate to pay Kč 150 million (€ 5.53 million) for Šimůnek. As a result, Šimůnek became the third-most expensive player to leave the Gambrinus liga, after midfielder Tomáš Rosický and striker Milan Baroš.

When buying Rosický from Sparta in 2001, Ballspiel-Verein Borussia 1909 e. V. Dortmund paid Kč 504 million. Meanwhile, Liverpool Football Club invested Kč 189 million into signing Baroš also in 2001. The other big stars of Czech football were bought relatively cheaply. Highly rated goalkeeper Petr Čech who now plays for Chelsea Football Club left Sparta for French organization Stade Rennais Football Club for a modest Kč 140 million in 2002, and Societa Sportiva Lazio paid Kč 138 million for would-be star midfielder Pavel Nedvěd in 1996.

In contrast to some other Czech clubs that house successful members of the Czech under-20 team, Sparta did not hesitate to sell Šimůnek at the record price, despite Šimůnek being something of an unknown quantity.

“That was an offer that does not arrive every day,” said Lukáš Přibyl, former Sparta spokesman who worked on the club’s board until the end of September. “The unexpected achievement of the junior team caused the price of the team’s players to skyrocket and it would have been foolish not to capitalize on such an opportunity.”

In a contrasting example, North Bohemian club FK Teplice resisted selling newly risen star striker Martin Fenin, who scored the only Czech goal in the Czech team’s 2-1 loss to Argentina in the World Under-20 Championship final. Teplice received multiple offers from Germany and Spain in the summer but their exaggerated financial demands meant that Fenin remained playing in Teplice.

    Time on his side

Both Šimůnek and Fenin admitted to difficulties in making the decision whether to stay in their home clubs or to leave abroad. While Fenin’s dilemma was resolved by Teplice's exaggerated financial demands, Šimůnek was seeking advice from his manager and also his father even after Sparta agreed to sell him.

“Honestly, I did not know what to expect and so was kind of uncertain,” he said.

From the beginning, however, he was included into Wolfsburg’s starting lineup and has earned recognition as a fine defender.

Although Czech team head coach Karel Brückner’s invitation for Šimůnek to the national team came as no surprise to the country’s football community, Šimůnek said he had not expected it. And he was the first member of the team to arrive at the training camp. “I was there an hour and a half beforehand, just to make sure that I wouldn’t be late,” Šimůnek said.

    National team
    2007–present Germany 8 (4)

Mario Gómez (born July 10, 1985 in Riedlingen) is a professional German football player who currently plays for VfB Stuttgart. His father is Spanish and his mother Christel is German.

On July 23, 2007 he has extended his contract until the summer of 2012.

    National Team Career

He made his debut for the German national football team against Switzerland on February 7, 2007. Germany won the match 3-1, with Gómez scoring Germany's second goal. Gómez gained his second cap for Germany, coming on as a substitute for Kevin Kuranyi in a EURO 2008 qualifier against San Marino, scoring two goals that contributed to a final 6-0 victory.

He is hailed the "New Striker Hope" of German football.

    Injuries

Gómez broke his hand on March 10, 2007. Fox Sports News reported: "Gomez struck the medic's medicine box with his hand while being treated on the field during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg." This injury seems minor, however, compared to the torn ligament in his left knee that he contracted in that same game and that may sideline him for six weeks.

    Comeback

On May 12, 2007 in the Bundesliga match against Bochum he came off the bench making his first appearance after his injury. The VfB was 1:2 down at this time. He got the equaliser with his first touch of the game. At the end of the game, VfB defeated Bochum (3:2) and went two points clear heading into the Bundesliga's final weekend where they won at home against Energie Cottbus and became Champions of the Bundesliga.

    2007/08 season

He was named German Footballer of the Year 2007 before the start of the season. It was confirmed that Juventus and Real Madrid were trying to buy him.

    Honours

    With Stuttgart:

    * Bundesliga (2006-07)
    * German Footballer of the Year 2007

    Comments
: He's the ideal player you want as Trezeguet's successor with Huntelaar. Big guy that can score from anywhere in the box. A scoring machine.

    Summer Transfer

In February 2008 the French football magazine L'Equipe stated that Paul Le Guen had been keeping tabs on the powerful striker during his time with Rangers, and as a result the current Rangers manager Walter Smith has also openly admitted his desire to sign Gomis in the summer. St-Étienne are holding out for a price of £3.3 million, negotiations are set to begin in the summer window.
