Stefano Pioli is no stranger to Juventus. The Bologna boss, 47, enjoyed a three-year spell in Turin during the mid-eighties, and fondly recalled his goal in the Bianconeri’s 5-0 Coppa Italia win over Sambenedettese back in 1984.

The former central-defender explained: “I was in the middle of the park and after playing a one-two with Platini, then a one-two with Paolo Rossi, I found myself one-on-one with the keeper and scored a wonderful goal.”

Pioli then put nostalgia to one side and discussed tomorrow’s game against his former employers. The Rossoblu find themselves in a moment of strong form, having lost just two of their last nine fixtures, leaving the Parma-born coach hopeful of causing an upset.

“We’ll be facing a very tough side,” he mused. “Our performance must therefore be at the highest possible level. Our qualities - the way we set ourselves up and our attitude - must be expressed to the maximum if we want to put in a performance. We were in good shape a month ago, when we should have played Juventus, and we’re also in good condition now. We’re going through a good patch and we want to play all our cards.”
