14m for a starting defender is proof that we don’t need to spend big for quality defenders. With the way modern football is played and with VAR, I’m fine with paying fair value for above average defenders and not buying top players for defense.

the biggest upside with him is that he is actually good with his feet too. Sum around 20m can get u an average defender, but they are usually shit with the ball, he is better than that. Plus he is definitely above average ofc.
Not to mention he can actually cover RB too if needed.

He offers versatility, capable of playing both center-back and right-back. I actually think he’d excel as a right-back—one of the best defensively in that position. He has the pace to overlap and delivers quality crosses too.

He played as RB yesterday and was one of the weak links for France in the game vs Spain, looked rather clumsy and Nico Williams skinned him a couple of times, then grown a bit in the game and had an overall ‘okaish’ game even if still inconsistent, ultimately got subbed out in the 60th min or so after France already conceded 4goals(from total of 5)with him on the pitch, but i’d also say that the whole french team looked pathetic for most parts, specifically when defending so that might’ve impacted him too.

Apparently this was also his official debut as starter for France national team, maybe the pressure got to him.

He's better than this, but clearly we don't have our heads in the game and we're just treating this as a preseason tournament. It's clear the management and coaching staff doesn't really care.
Not that i disagree after what the lineup we’ve seen today…

But seriously that kind of silly unforced own goal deserves no excuse, this guy is just as clumsy as Gatti is, basically great on his day but can easily be a liability when not, a mistake waiting to happen when you expect it less, and this time it happened while the score was 1:1 just as we were actually balancing the game out a bit.

With that being said, overall he did prove himself to be reliable for us and the positives surely outweighs the negatives, so still rather keep and start him more often than not compared to our other options.

Something wasn't right after city's first goal. Kalulu knew he went in too early and got done, and after the goal you can see from his expression he was pissed with himself, but not angry to get him focused but just frustrated and perplexed like how did he allow that. I think that played on his mind because the second goal we conceded was pathetic, but its almost like mentally he was fucked up. Its at that point he should've been taken off. Mentality is 7/10ths of football. I think Costa was no help and neither was Kelly. Savona was doing what he can but kalulu was just outnumbered and not 'fit' for today. He needs to get out of his head. They all need to know they can do better than this and treat the next match with anger to prove their worth.
