    BACKGROUND

Crisis at Juve? Some critics would have you believe so, but a match against inconsistent Perugia could be just the tonic for the Old Lady.

Serse Cosmi's men have had a respectable season and look set for a mid-table finish. Their home form has been strong, although points have been frittered away on the road. Last week Perugia had much of the play against Brescia but ended up losing 3-1. Once again Fabrizio Miccoli was the main danger in front of goal and found the target in the second-half. So impressive has his recent form been, that there is talk of him returning to Juventus in January.

The pint-sized striker was again on the score-sheet on Thursday when helping his team past Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia. Zisas Vryzas also netted in a 2-0 win.

Back-to-back defeats against Brescia and Lazio have left Juventus six points off the Serie A lead and playing catch-up. The loss at Brescia would have been seen as a mere blip were it not for the setback at home to Lazio last Sunday. The Biancocelesti deserved their win, and had it not been for some fine Gianluigi Buffon saves, the visitors could have had more. Lilian Thuram also impressed in the back-four, keeping the in-form Claudio Lopez quiet.

Not too much should be read into the second-string's 1-0 home defeat to Reggina on Wednesday. After all the Bianconeri are through to the next round where they will meet, guess who, Perugia.

Coach Marcello Lippi has told his side's critics to wait before making any rash judgements.

"We are not a team in crisis but we are just catching our breath," he said. "We have given a lot in these last four months in Serie A and in the Champions' League. But from the start of January we will become very competitive once again."

Perugia : Last Six Matches: WWDDLW

Serie A wins against Como and Atalanta have kept Perugia's head well above water. A draw against Piacenza and a defeat last week to Brescia would have been less satisfying.

Juventus : Last Six Matches: DWLWLL

The defeats against Brescia and Lazio have left Lippi's men in a hole. In the Champions League, it is a rosier picture, and with four points from two games following the 4-0 thrashing of Basle, Juve can be confident of going through

    LATEST TEAM NEWS

Perugia: Rossi, Loumpoutis and Pagliuca should play after recovering from injury. Amoruso is likely to be paired up-front with Miccoli. Criniti and Baronio are out.

PL: Rossi; Sogliano, Di Loreto, Milanese; Ze Maria, Tedesco, Obodo, Pagliuca, Loumpoutis; Miccoli, Amoruso

Juventus: Ferrara comes in to replace the injured Iuliano. Trezeguet should partner Del Piero in attack. The profligate Di Vaio is likely to be on the bench. Tudor remains on the sidelines.

PL: Buffon; Thuram, Ferrara, Montero, Birindelli; Zambrotta, Tacchinardi, Davids; Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet

    PLAYERS TO WATCH

Fabrizio Miccoli (Perugia): the obvious choice given that the in-form striker will be facing the club that owns him. Who'd bet against him continuing his recent fine form with at least another goal?

David Trezeguet (Juventus): the Frenchman will be hungry to impress after so long out. His partnership with Del Piero was highly prolific to say the least last season.

Juventus have lost three of their last four games. Despite this, they are still well in the running on all three fronts. They desperately need a win from this one, though, and should just sneak it.

Yeah, Baggio tends keeps his best for Milan.:) Remember his hat-trick for Bologna just after Milan discarded him..
Pity that Roby never played well for Milan, gosh he must have hated them.;).

On serious note, Milan should be a comfortable winners. I just can't see how Brescia's second rate defence stopping Andriy and co.

    Lippi: Something is a miss
Posted by Nina | Football Italia

Marcello Lippi breaks the press silence to admit his Juventus outfit has problems as they travel to Perugia.

“I expect a team that is different from our recent performances,” said the tactician following two consecutive Serie A defeats to Brescia and Lazio.

“The squad has relaxed and caught its breath back. Now is the time to set off again. We know that we have the right weapons in our armoury and it all depends on us to make the most of them.”

Including the midweek Coppa Italia encounter with Reggina, Juventus have suffered three defeats out of their last four official games.

“Even being shouted at by the Coach can be a positive thing,” assured Lippi after his bitter criticism of that performance.

“As I have always praised this squad for its work, a few days ago I expressed my negative opinion on their attitude. That’s just the way I am – can’t keep any thoughts in.”

With just two points from their last four Serie A games, the reigning Champions risk dropping back from the Scudetto chase.

“There has been a slide of late and that caused these recent results,” added the tactician. “We shall only find out during the game if this will continue to affect the team. It is normal to suffer a psychological and physical hiccup when playing in three competitions.”

There is good and bad news from the medical staff for this tricky trip to Perugia. David Trezeguet returns for his first Serie A start in two months, but Alessio Tacchinardi is out with a muscular problem.

“David is 100 per cent fit now,” assured Lippi, “and he can play 90 minutes.” Mark Iuliano, Davide Baiocco, Igor Tudor and Ruben Olivera are also injured.

The Stadio Renato Curi has never been a fortunate place for the Turin giants and they lost a Scudetto here in May 2000.

“Perugia are very good on home turf and have been vivacious in recent outings. They are a pacey side with many talented youngsters.”

Several of their up and coming stars – including Fabrizio Miccoli and Manuele Blasi – are owned by Juventus and merely on loan with Serse Cosmi’s side.

“Nonetheless,” noted Lippi, “they will be happy to score against Juve. It is only right that they should be.”

    Another draw/defeat is likely:(

If that happens, Christmas is cancelled:fero:
christmas isn't cancelled, it's just pissed off.

anyways. i'm here to provide dodgy translations (not my own) and poor comments to anyone who wants to hear.

but in the interests of everyone else's sanity, is anyone else watching the game?
