Juventus are lining up a move for Porto defender Pepe as the Bianconeri prepare for their top-flight return.

While many players are on the Juve shopping list, it has been suggested that Coach Claudio Ranieri sees the towering stopper – real name Kepler Laveran Lima Ferreira – as top priority.

Reports in Italy state that Alessio Secco and other Bianconeri directors have visited Portugal to discuss the Brazilian star’s future with Porto President Pinto da Costa.

The talented 24-year-old has spent three seasons with the Dragons and often plays as the only central defender in a three-man back line.

Juve may have trouble prising Pepe away from Portugal where he has settled and recently received a passport.

It is rumoured that the Old Lady would be expected to pay around £13m should Pepe agree to a move, but their offer is more likely to involve a part exchange with Fabrizio Miccoli.

Miccoli earned many plaudits in the bwin.com Liga last season while on loan to Benfica and could see around £5m subtracted from the fee.

Benfica’s Luisao had been seen as an alternative, but he has already rejected the Bianconeri’s advances after claiming he wants to play in the Champions League.

Stuttgart captain Fernando Meira is another candidate to strengthen the defence, according to the Portuguese Press.

The 29-year-old played a crucial role as the Baden-Württemberg outfit sealed the Bundesliga crown and he has stated a desire to play in Italy.

As Juve continue to bring in new faces, Matteo Paro may be leaving Turin, with newly-promoted Genoa seen as the most likely destination.

Pepe Very Close to Juventus ( + miccoli)

Juventus vicino a Pepe.
