Baggio: Lippi was jealous
Saturday 29 March, 2008
Roberto Baggio has spoken out on Marcello Lippi’s “envy” and his interest in becoming Inter’s youth Coach.
The Divine Ponytail gave an extensive interview to the Gazzetta dello Sport today and looked back over some of the difficult times in his career.
Most notably the split with Lippi, who he clashed with during their brief spell together at the Nerazzurri.
“The people loved me and this meant I took the spotlight off some other people. This created difficulties in my rapport with some figures, Lippi more than others.”
Baggio attended Inter’s centenary celebrations earlier this month and took the opportunity to discuss opening a new chapter of his career with President Massimo Moratti.
“Moratti is the right person for my project helping out youngsters. We talked about it. When he is convinced it is time to go, then I am ready.”
He also commented on the changes in the sport all over the world since he retired.
“It is all much faster and more difficult now. In the 1990s it was more than the 80s, now even more than the 90s,” said the former European and World Player of the Year.
“It is the evolution of the spot and we have to follow it. However, one cannot criticise a player for trying a backheel during a game. Are we crazy?
“In South America more than Europe they are much closer to the authentic spirit of football. This is why I adore Leo Messi.”

Baggio is annoying. All anyone can ever do is be jealous of his wonderful self, because he can never be wrong about anything.
I see that he's chosen Inter out of all the clubs he played for to start a coaching career. Inter is not exactly famous for its youth, so I wonder how that will turn out.
