You would think that we are on redcafe’s Lukaku thread judging by the way some on here talk about his first touch.

Dybala’s first touch is not exceptional but it’s fine. In the last few games, Ronaldo has been the one with the heavy first touch.
:agree:

I want Dybala to be more consistent for us, and to link up with his teammates better. But in terms of individual play level, the guy is absolutely fantastic. If he can get more involved in the team play, linking up more with our other attackers (especially Ronaldo) he would be a candidate for best in the world.

I do feel like his passing and playmaking was better in 2016/17 than it is now.

Here’s his highlight reel, footage from August 2016 to February 2017:

Notice the following time stamps:

0:41
2:25
2:58
4:18
4:45
8:01

He hasn’t been playing these kind of through-balls and passes recently.

Obviously he hasn’t lost his vision or passing ability, you don’t lose that. But I do feel that he has lot less creative duties nowadays. His main purpose is to score, not to create.

Our 16/17 team was rather stiff. We were well organized but not very creative going forward, so Paulo played as an attacking midfielder and everything went through him.

DP's first touch was godly :touched:
Exquisite. Divine i would say.
I have seen just 2 players with a first touch as majestic and dreamy. Those were del piero and zidane.

I believe he is playing as a treq most of the time now?

We rarely see him playing in scoring positions a whole game nowadays.

Nowadays he plays further forward than he did in 2016/17, but deeper compared to 2015/16.

When we had Pogba, Dybala had almost no creative responsibilities. He was playing in a two striker formation with Mandzukic. Then we lost Pogba and we moved to 4231 where Dybala played as a typical attacking midfielder. He would drop very deep to receive the ball and drive forward. He would also make those defence-splitting passes I highlighted above.
