Barcelona had Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Iniesta, etc lasts year and they still weren't CL favourites and got absolutely thrashed by us.

Depends on the coach imo. If a great coach like Simeone had made this Roma into a grit machine with Dzeko-Messi upfront and fit de Rossi-Nainggolan in the middle, I'd say they are CL contenders. CL favorites? Aint no such thing, thats why I love football, we're in March and no ones got any idea who are clear CL favorites, is it Barca, Real, Bayern, City, Juve? Could make a case for all, maybe a bit of a longshot for Juve

Gap might be closed but not because we have gotten better but because Ronaldo and Messi are starting to fade away due to their age. If anything, we have gotten weaker over the past years.

But we certainly were not weaker last year. A domestic double, and a CL final. We improved our attack and our FBs by a large measure from 2014-15 at the expense of our midfield. The two team had very different strengths, but were of a very similar level of quality.

Ronaldo has 22 goals in his last 13 CL matches. Hardly fading. He will fade, but it has not happened yet.

We need to fix our midfield aside from Pjanic and Matuidi. And we need a top class RB. While keeping our team together. Then we have the strongest Juventus post-calciopoli. Unfortunately I don't see that happening without selling. So 1 step forward, 1 step back remains the name of the game. (or in the case of this past summer, probably 1.5 steps back )

Yeah. It's not like I can disagree with that but from a fan standpoint of view it's rather annoying to see our club selling players. It's going to be pointless if we sign a good mid or a RB but end up selling Sandro or Dybala. IMO it's 1.5-2 steps backwards and imo we won't see anything different this summer. It's gonna be another huge break if Allegri decides to leave or we fire him. I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. We're a good team. But we can't break it through nor it looks likely to change that.

No we are not, our midfield is terrible. Tottenham walked through us at Wembley, and a better side would have punished us much harder.

Incredibly simplistic notion. One Messi doesn't simply mask midfield deficiencies that are evidently there, particularly when compared to the top teams. One Messi and a top quality midfield reinforcement and we can be considered CL favorites.

I don't think either is deserving of saying that. Dybala scored four goals in the last three games coming back from injury. He's still not completely consistent and his period of form comes into burst periods, that's still confidence related and he's working on it.

Given the fact he was productive before coming into the game, why saying we can't rely on him based on one game?

I agree with the bolded part although I do think he has it in him to fulfill expectations, it's up to him in the end. In regards to the rest we relied on him during crunch time against both Lazio and Spurs, so I can't care less about him not showing up against SPAL - once in 4 games after getting back from injury. I'd much rather him being decisive when it matters and besides nobody showed up today. Still think he's actively working on being more consistent and that he'll improve
