Dropping back does not mean he is necessarily contributing much defensively. He is the playmaker, he has to be available for matuidi or stu to short pass to once possession is claimed so it isnt just turned over again
And he's fine where he is imo. You want your most skilled player to have as much time on the ball as possible, you don't want him to stay up front and wait for the ball in a CF position.

I agree even if he is a better fit as a second striker then a CAM. It is the best solution given circumstance and available players

Dybala is a forward.

He's not creative enough to be a CAM. He likes to shoot and stay much closer to goal.

No wonder he has a cuntload of goals but only 2 assists.

If we had a competent midfield he could be really dangerous around and in the penalty area :tuttosport:

We are wasting his talents by making him play in front of an incompetent midfield.

Yeah, it's all well and good that he occasionally drops back for the ball and creates himself. However, right now the only way we are creating anything is when he drops deep.

Contributes defensively lmao. What games are you guys watching? The odd tracking back to stop a marauding winger/striker asied, he doesn't do jack-shit in terms of defensive work. He once in a while drops into midfield when our CMs aren’t able to get the ball to him enough, but for the most part he’s one of the “laziest” players defensively in our team. And that’s fine, because he has a free attacking role in our team and we need him to save energy for his actual attacking duties. Don’t blame Max on his poor performances in the CL, he has looked poor even when playing as a second striker as well. It’s a mental thing at the moment and it seems like the pressure of playing in Europe gets to him.

Maybe he is saving his best for Barcelona

Dybala does nothing defensively but when he has to run for the team in a rare scenario to chase a counter attack, he will do it. He's not a shit head like some fancy attacking players. He will actually bust his ass to track back when he has to. But in the overall setup of our 4-4-2 defensive shape, he does very little, let's be honest.

Shits me to think how critical the media is on dybala when allegri isolates him in a role that clearly doesnt get the best of out him. Weak midfield that clearly needs an extra resource, meaning 3 in midfield..then plays cuadrado and mandzukic out wide...one natural CF and the other a winger who cant breakdown defenses and create enough. Yet, Dybala has to drop deep, create everything and score goals and gets criticised when it doesnt happen.

How about allegri starts realising his tactics are not working this season, play other creative players like bernardeschi to help Dybala out.

No, iliveforjuve says he defends too much, afterall defending is listed as one his strenths on whoscored.
:howler:

Never said he was Vidal but when we can't keep the ball against decent opposition you see Dybala defending a lot more than he should.

It's no coincidence he plays shittier when Matuidi is on the bench and Khedira's on the pitch.

Bernie should play. Dybala hasn't really given Max a reason to start him.

Man, what a complete 180 from the start of the season

Worst Paulo game since he came here... Max put him in that place to allow Pipa go out of his mindblocked so I hope Max could it now with Paulo... How that fuck he didn't even take all FK, obviously is a completely blackout
